This beginning sound sort for the letter E is a great hands on activity for recognizing the most common sound of the letter E. This is an easy and fun activity to give students who need practice with recognizing the letter E sound from amongst other letter sounds or for those students who need extra practice distinguishing between the initial sounds in words. To complete this sorting activity , students will look at a picture on an Easter egg to determine if the picture begins with the letter E or does not begin with the letter E, and then the students will place the egg on the correct basket mat. This sorting activity includes 3 pages that contains One basket mat for pictures that begin with the letter E One basket mat for pictures that do not begin with the letter E Easter egg pictures that begin with E Easter egg pictures that do not begin with E This beginning sound sort can be used in the following ways Literacy centers Fine motor centers File folder activity Add magnets to the picture cards for a baking tray activity Small group activities Morning work Emergency sub plans If making a file folder game, the teacher will place the mats on either side of the folder and use hook and loop fasteners to sort the egg pictures. Fall I Have, Who Has? Game – Numbers and Number Words 0–30 This autumn version of “I Have, Who Has?” gives students practice with numbers and number words from 0 up to 30 . I like to use it in October, when the seasonal design adds a bit of variety to our math centers. The familiar format makes it easy for students to understand, and the game naturally gets everyone involved. The set includes two complete versions. One uses standard number words, while the other shows the words broken into syllables for students who need extra support with reading. That option has been especially helpful for children who find longer number words like “seventeen” or “twenty-three” difficult to read in one piece. You can decide how many cards to use depending on the group. For beginners, I usually stop at 0–10. As students gain confidence, I extend to 20 and then to 30. This makes the same resource usable across different levels without much extra planning. Playing is straightforward. The student with the start card begins by saying, “I have zero. Who has one?” The next student responds and the chain continues until the last card is read. Because students must listen carefully and wait for their turn, the game encourages attention, listening skills, and turn-taking alongside number practice. I have used this game in whole-class lessons, where everyone sits in a circle and plays together, and in small groups for targeted practice. It also works well for early finishers since once they know the rules, they can play independently. Preparation is simple. Print the cards, cut them apart, and laminate if you plan to reuse them. I store each set in a small envelope labeled with the range (10, 20, 30), so it’s easy to grab the version I need. This activity combines math and literacy practice with teamwork in a way that feels light and seasonal, but the skills—number recognition, word reading, and listening—are useful at any time of year. Fall Alphabet Memory Game – Uppercase ABC Cards ABC Picture Cards for Letter Recognition and Word Building This fall alphabet memory game is made with uppercase letters only, from A to Z. Each card shows one bold capital letter together with a simple fall picture, such as B with bat or P with pumpkin . I started using it at the beginning of the school year when my kindergarten class was just learning capital letters, and it quickly became a favorite activity. There are six complete decks of 29 cards each. I like having more than one set because I can give different groups their own deck and avoid cards getting mixed together. The most common way we use the cards is as a memory game, where children flip them over and look for pairs. But there are many other options: putting the alphabet in order on the rug, matching letters I call out, or using a single card as a starting point for a quick word game. The focus on uppercase only makes this resource useful for beginners. Students who are still getting comfortable with print can concentrate on learning one letter form at a time. English learners also benefit from the clear images, since they can connect the picture with the letter sound without feeling overwhelmed. Preparation is simple. Print, cut, and, if you want the cards to last, laminate them. I store mine in small envelopes so they are easy to grab during literacy centers, small group rotations, or as an option for early finishers. The autumn theme makes them seasonal, but the skills they reinforce—recognizing uppercase letters, matching letters with sounds, and developing early vocabulary—are important throughout the year. Fall Alphabet Match Game Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Center Spot It Style Cards for Early Literacy This fall-themed alphabet game is a playful way for students to practice uppercase and lowercase letters. The activity is based on a “find the match” system: each card has exactly one letter in common with another card, and students have to be the first to spot it. I have used this kind of game format with kindergarten and first grade, and it usually gets the whole group involved quickly. The set includes 93 cards in total, divided into three different versions of 31 cards each. There are round cards, hexagons, and squares. I usually prepare the square version when I need something quick to cut, but the round cards feel more like a traditional game and always catch students’ attention. The hexagons are a nice option if you want a different look. Each card shows six pictures, with the letters hidden among them, so students have to focus closely to find the match. This type of activity works well for building letter recognition, both uppercase and lowercase. It also helps with visual perception, concentration, and taking turns in a group setting. In my classroom, I sometimes keep the game in a literacy center, and other times I use it as a quick warm-up before a reading lesson. It is flexible enough to use in small groups, partner work, or even as an early finisher option. The set also comes with tally sheets, which give students an extra chance to record their letters and practice writing. Some of my students liked keeping track of their matches this way, which turned the game into a mix of play and writing practice. Preparation is simple: print the cards, cut them apart, and laminate if you want them to last longer. Once made, they store easily in a small envelope or box and can be used again each fall. This resource is designed for kindergarten and the early grades, but older students sometimes enjoy it as a quick challenge too. Fall Domino Game – Numbers and Number Words 0–30

Fall Domino Game Numbers 0–30 and Number Words This autumn domino game is a hands-on way for students to practice both numbers and number words from 0 to 30. I introduced it during the fall term with my grade 1 class, and the students immediately understood the rules because it follows the familiar domino format. The seasonal design added a nice touch, but the main benefit was the repeated practice with connecting numbers and words. The set includes 68 cards in total, with two different versions. One version shows the standard number words, while the second version breaks the words into syllables. I noticed that the syllable version was especially helpful for younger readers or for students who still found longer number words challenging. Words such as “seventeen” or “twenty-four” became easier to read and pronounce when broken down into smaller parts. The game can be adjusted by number range, which makes it easy to differentiate. With beginners, I often start with 0–10 so that the game feels manageable. Later I expand the set to 0–20, and eventually the full 0–30 for more advanced groups. Because of this flexibility, the same set can be reused throughout the year with different levels of learners. There are several ways to play. In small groups, students take turns matching numbers with the correct number words, trying to be the first to play all their cards. In a whole-class setting, I sometimes spread the cards across the floor and let students work together to build one long domino chain. This version turns the game into a collaborative activity and gets everyone moving while still practicing number recognition. Preparation is simple. Print the cards, cut them apart, and laminate them if you want to reuse the set in future years. I keep mine in small envelopes labeled with 0–10, 0–20, and 0–30 so I can quickly pull the right range for each group.
