Phonics Chart: Alphabet chart A Bright, colourful, phonetically correct alphabet chart ! A colourful A4-size alphabet picture chart to help children learn to recognise the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Each letter has a picture of an object that begins with that sound. 2 font styles are included. When children are first starting to learn letter shapes and sounds, it is helpful to have a handy reference chart that the children can use to aid recall or letter shapes and a picture cue to the sound each letter stands for. There are many ways to use these charts: Wall reference Desk reference - give one to each child; special needs children especially find them helpful. Wall reference: a wall chart Play quick games: Put a counter on the letter that says /t/, for example, and play until all letters are covered. Cut up the squares and ask the children to lay the letters in alphabetical order. Activities: Write me the sound that ...teddy... begins with: can the child write the letter straight away without looking? Does the child look for the picture of the teddy? Use to assess. Can you tell me which object begins with the sound ...../h/, for example. The child looks for 'h' and says 'house'. Let the children use their charts as they complete worksheets/write/spell. Who is the phonetic alphabet picture chart for? All ages and abilities special needs children ESL, EFL learners, Who can use the phonetic alphabet picture chart ? Class teachers Parents Home educators Private tutors Anyone who needs it! What is included? 2, colour, A4 charts in PDF form, in the choice of 2 font styles, Primer Print, or my own kindergarten font, 'Vera'. I originally made this chart for a special needs kindergarten child with cerebral palsy; although he knew his letters and the associated phonic sounds, his recall was poor - he could know them one minute and they had gone the next. He loves using his chart and has made rapid progress since I made it. It gave him security.

Here is a handy Doubling Rule A4-size poster. Do you need a simple way to help pupils know when to double and when not? Either give each table a poster to keep handy while the pupils write, or pin it at strategic points around the classroom for easy reference. Doubling can be made complicated, with more rules added, all of which add extra steps for a child to remember. This makes spelling a nightmare for a child with a processing difficulty. Here at Lilibette's Resources, I like to make reading and spelling as easy as possible, with as few rules as possible, helping the children to internalise the rules without the need to learn them parrot fashion. Here is the doubling rule simply explained with worked examples. The key rule is: We double to keep the vowel short. Many parents struggle with this rule, too! So why not send the poster home with your pupils? Teachers often teach parents unaware!! Reading Made Simple helps to reduce the cognitive load on the child's working memory, making it easier for the child to gain reading and writing fluency.
