Grade 6 McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders Words to Know COMPLETE SET
ELA, Language Development, Vocabulary, Grade 6, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Practicing Wonders Words to Know is often a bit of a boring task for most students. That's why we made it a bit more fun. First of all, you can guide students through the book along with the vocabulary list. Here it shows the part of speech, the word, the definition and an example sentence. This way, students don't even need their books anymore to practice all of the words at home. Another fun element is the word search. This word search is based on the definitions, so the student is not given the correct answer right away. This way, they really have to dig into their memories to come up with the correct answer. After all of the practicing is done, it is time to do the test. You can present this by first giving the definition and then to let the student fill out the correct answer. The second part is a fill in the blanks exercise.

How to Fly A Kite | Early Writing and Sequencing Activity
ELA, Writing, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This resource leverages the popular springtime activity of kite flying to help young students learn basics of sequential "how-to" writing. The materials creatively break down the process into clear steps designed to engage emerging writers. Various printable templates guide children to color, cut out, organize, and describe the methodology for successfully flying a kite. The packet incorporates two leveled writing checklists appropriate for kindergarten through early elementary to support development of core writing skills. A sample how-to paragraph models the desired format, while a colorful sequencing word bank introduces transition vocabulary. Teachers also receive vivid pictorial cards demonstrating the kite preparation process and individual word cards to display or incorporate as a matching game. Primary workbook-style templates encourage students to enumerate or illustrate the necessary supplies, weather conditions, and step-by-step actions needed to fly a kite. Additional themed story starters inspire children to describe their favorite kite design or tailor creative narratives around kite characters. A final draft kite template offers the entertaining possibility of actually designing miniature versions. With opportunities to strengthen fine motor skills through coloring, organizing logical sequences, copying transitional words, controlled writing practice, and inventing kite-inspired stories, students gain confidence applying fundamental instructional writing techniques to a topic that feeds imagination. The cross-disciplinary activities leverage a child-friendly theme to organically marry science and literacy learning. Freedom Train by Dorothy Sterling Novel Study
ELA, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Biographies, Grade 5, 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Novel Studies
This text-heavy Freedom Train novel unit can easily be applied to both social studies and reading/language subjects. This allows for a break in between work sessions and can be done on alternate days with grammar/writing/reading skill work or Civil War background work put into the mix. I use it as a resource and not on its own – it would be too intense alone for a 4th (and even possibly 5th) grade class. Sixth or seventh graders, based on their ability level, could easily do this study as a piece on its own. Included in this unit: QAR mini-review Vocabulary words for each section Vocabulary page that can be posted on a document camera or in an LMS Chapter comprehension questions (with students needing to identify QAR and the skill covered next to the question) Three quizzes Final test for assessment The chapter questions and each assessment all have open-ended questions, to ensure students show evidence and show their comprehension level of the topic(s) taught! Answer keys are provided - could be used as a written component, discussion questions, or individual comprehension assessment. Best for: Grades 5- 8 Tags: novel study, Civil War, social studies cross curricular, Freedom Train, Harriet Tubman File Types: PDF Number of Pages: 58
