The six puzzles overlap on purpose — cake, candles, balloons and clap all appear in more than one grid — so working through the set reinforces the core words rather than introducing six unrelated lists
Check the creator-supplied trivia before using it as a factual lesson opener
Two clue lists share numbers between across and down entries, which is a good chance to teach how a crossword is read before the first puzzle goes out

Skills covered

Vocabulary from definitions — students turn "You blow these out on your cake" into candles and "A folded paper with birthday wishes" into card, across forty-eight clues.
Spelling to a fixed length — every answer has to fit its numbered squares, so frosting, streamers and confetti must be spelled out exactly.

Do the six puzzles reuse the same words?

Several recur on purpose. Cake appears in Birthday Party Fun and again in Sweet Treats, candles in Party Fun and Birthday Wishes, balloons in Party Fun and Decorations, and clap answers "What people do after singing a song" in the first grid and "What people do after singing" in the fifth.

In Birthday Crosswords (PDF), how are the clues written?

As plain definitions a young reader can decode without any wordplay: "You blow these out on your cake" for candles, "A big sign that says 'Happy Birthday!'" for banner, "A round, crunchy treat with chocolate chips" for cookie.

What are the "Did you know" lines above each grid for?

Each grid has a brief creator-supplied trivia line. These can prompt discussion, but the record, birthday-month and historical claims are not substantiated in the file. The Decorations line concerns number systems rather than birthdays.
