5 Minute Games Bundle: Super Simple No-Prep Games for Elementary Students (ELA & Math)
ELA, Math, Early Math, Place Value, Grammar, Language Development, Vocabulary, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities, Games
Here are four quick no-prep games for any elementary classroom. They address topics including math, spelling, syllables, rhyme, vocabulary, parts of speech, geography, & critical and creative thinking. Each of the 4 games has its own page of instructions including the skills taught, different player configurations, rules, a sample round, and extension ideas. These games require NO PREP and NO MATERIALS other than writing implements. I suggest whiteboards to save paper. Grades to Use With: These games can be used in any elementary classroom (grades K-8). They are great for the following uses: - Morning/home-room warm-up - TOC back-up activities - To fill the 5 minutes before lunch or the end of the day - As a reward for small-group or one-to-one tutoring The four games are: - 4 Letter Word Game : Start with a 4-letter word on the paper/whiteboard. Players/teams take turns changing one letter at a time to make a new English word. Play until you are stuck or time runs out. - Guess My Number Game : Start with a range based on your students (ex: 1-20 for K, 1-100 for Gr 1-4, 1-200 for Gr 5-7). The teacher (or student if playing in pairs) thinks of a number in that range. The other student (or whole class) has exactly 5 questions of greater than or less than to narrow it down. After 5 questions, they must guess the number. - The Rhyme Game : Start with a word that has many rhymes. (For example: tent, rant, king, see, you.) Do NOT choose duck for obvious reasons. Each student (or each team) has two minutes to make a list of as many rhyming words as they can. Points are counted based on syllables. The longer the word, the more points. After two minutes, tally the scores to find the winner. - Categories: Start by writing 5 categories from the following options on the board: animals, cities, verbs, fruits, toys, pet names, countries, adjectives, beverages, colours, holidays, vehicles, movies, kitchen tools, flowers, books. Then choose one letter of the alphabet. Students get two minutes to think of a word for each category staring with that letter.

Editable Make Your Own: Vocabulary Grab Bag Game
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Not Grade Specific, Activities, Games
Vocab Grab Bag is an interactive learning and review activity that focuses on academic vocabulary. This activity can be a part of your sheltered instruction toolbox and is great for both ELLs and native English speakers. Now you can make your own Vocab Grab Bag activities! Simply download the templates as a Power Point file, or convert into Google Slides. Then you can type directly into the provided text boxes or insert your own text boxes. You will need to use your own fonts. Happy creating! How to make your own Vocab Grab Bag Game: 1.Pick 6 vocabulary words that you would like to target. Use the Vocabulary Cards Template and record the words. Copy enough sets so that each group has a set of 6. If you open the slides in Power Point or Google Slides, you can type into text boxes to record your words. You could also print this resource and just hand write the words into the boxes. 2.Create a Cheat Sheet Template if desired. I have found the cheat sheets to be helpful for students. They allow students to learn to help themselves and not be so dependent on the teacher for answers. The cheat sheets might be helpful for students who are learning English. 3.Cut the vocab cards and place them in some sort of bag, envelope, or container. 4.Cut out the job cards to fit the number of students you have in each group. I like to print multiple versions for each group type in case there are absences or unexpected numbers of students. 5.Create an alphabetizing mat key so students can double check their work themselves. This Vocab Grab Bag resource contains -Vocabulary Cards Template; you will need one set of cards per group. -”How to play vocab grab bag” text instructions to project or print for students. -Cheat Sheet Template: For your words and definitions -Job cards for groups of 3, 4, or 5; you will need one set of job cards per group. -(Optional) Alphabetizing Mat; if you use this additional activity , print one mat per group. -Answer Key Template for Alphabetizing Mat You will need to supply your own bag, envelope, or container for the word cards. How to play Vocab Grab Bag 1.Cut out the vocab cards and place one set of cards in each bag, envelope or container that you are using. 2.Organize students into groups of 3, 4, or 5. I have found that groups of 4 seem to be optimal. 3.Give each student one Job Card. 4.Students go in order, starting with Job 1 until they have completed one round. Do not return the used words to the container. 5. After each round, students rotate jobs, passing the Job Cards in the order you designate. 6. Continue until the teacher stops the game. 7. Alternate option #1: When all word cards have been used, transition to putting the words in alphabetical order, using the Alphabetizing Mat. 8. Alternate option #2: If all word cards have been used, return all the cards to the container and start over again. Teacher tips •Do not skip the praise step, it is important and surprisingly fun! •If you have a student in the very early stages of learning English, consider letting them keep Job 1 or Job 2 for the entire game. Project the instructions at the front of the room for students to refer to while playing.

Final e/Silent e/split digraphs Phonic Game: Build a Tower!
ELA, Special Resources, Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Activities, Games
Here is an ultra fun game to help pupils learn to 'Spot the 'e''' and change from vowel sound to vowel name! This game covers i/i-e a/a-e o/o-e When introducing the Final e/silent ‘e’/split digraphs/CVCV words, many children have difficulty quickly changing vowel names to vowel sounds and vice versa. This game can help to take the stress out of learning. How to play The game involves each player having a baseboard upon which to build his/her tower. Players aim to be the first to build their tower and win! Word cards containing both silent 'e' and CVC words are scattered on the table - with an 'oops' card hidden amongst them! Players take turns to choose a card. If it is read correctly, the player places it on his/her baseboard and begins to build a tower. Teachers and parents may give the child as much help as needed to read each word and turn it into a teaching opportunity. With more confident children, you can change the rules so that the card is returned face down to the table if it is not read correctly. If a player chooses the 'Oops' card, then the whole tower is wiped off the player's board and the cards are returned to the table, face down and play continues until someone manages to build their tower. Your pupils will have so much fun they will forget that they are learning! Games take the pain out of learning! Ease of preparation: The game is easy to make: simply print the baseboards and desired word cards, then cut up the word cards. Full instructions included Who can use the 'Spot the 'e' game? It can be used by: Parents Teachers Tutors. What is included in the Spot the 'e' Game? 2 baseboards 3 sets of word cards for each of i/i-e; a/a-e; and o/o-e. Instructions 1 PDF 8 pages

Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention - Growing Bundle
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Activities, Games
This is a pack of Bumper Pack of 14 (to date) books of phonic worksheets for the digraphs: L blends, CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA especially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? PDF's of worksheets each covering the sounds: L Blends. CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA, all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Over 180+ Worksheets: Your phonics lessons covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Some sounds contain print-and-go games to make learning fun. AR and A-E each contain a board game. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound (except the Consonant L-Blends) with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included in most books. Phonic Games are also included for AR and A-E to make learning more fun! What is included? 10 PDFs totalling 150 + worksheets each covering the sounds: CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA, 2 PDF games for AR and A-E in full colour and black and white
