This book is a low prep activity for students to make and take home to practice the most common letter sound of the letter X. These letter sound readers are perfect for any preschool or kindergarten classroom where students are learning about the letter X and its most common sound. This emergent reader includes a cover page and seven different "X is for..." pages that all focus on the most common sound of the letter X. What is Included: Letter X emergent reader cover page. In this resource, students will play a mystery game. This is an SEL game that teachers cooperation, problem-solving and listening. Groups of 4-5 students will work together to figure out Michael's Mystery. Michael is a quarterback for the Washington Gorillas and has lost something and refuses to play in the game until it is found. There are three categories to solve; what is missing, who took it and where is it. There are 18 clues and 6 possible suspects in each of the categories. This game teaches how to work together for a common purpose. Students will need to access their listening skills, problem-solving skills, deduction skills and leadership skills. This is a great game for students in 3rd-6th grades but possibly older too! Objective: to help students quickly recognize and pronounce VC letter patterns and support bleding CVC words. Order, Outline and Steps: Chart 1: Focuses on VC patterns with short ‘a’ and ‘e’ sounds. This espresso reading comprehension contains the following: Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers. If there are five to ten minutes left at the end of the lesson, the student can choose one of three activities, each one requiring a different skill.
