"The Boston Tea Party" - A History Play

"The Boston Tea Party" - A History Play
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities

If you teach about the Road to Revolution in your class, this is a great way to get your students involved and engaged when you reach the Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party 1773. Having students reenact history is an excellent way for them to "experience" what events were like. This is a great example. This play was written using eyewitness accounts and other excellent sources including information from the Boston Tea Party museum. If ever in Boston it is a must do! You even get to throw the tea overboard as a guest of the museum! It was a ton of fun. Bring the Tea Party to life in your classroom with this play. If you get the time, please write a comment/feedback and let me know what you think of it.

Monitoring anxiety is essential for emotional health. This creative worksheet helps kids visualize their stress levels using a simple yet insightful “thermometer” model illustrating low, moderate, and high amounts of worry alongside a space for children to fill in their own tailored calming strategies. The Anxiety Thermometer features a vertical scale with increasing degrees of anxious feelings depicted in different shades of purple. Students circle where their concern currently registers. Prompts then encourage writing specific situations that spike their thermometers into each zone, like test stress or social evaluations. There’s also space to brainstorm personalized coping tactics to implement when reaching different levels of emotional arousal. This versatile tool increases self-awareness around triggers and appropriate responses - key skills for independent regulation. Teachers can display it in classrooms and have students check-in during escalated moments. Counselors can reference it in sessions exploring anxiety. Caregivers can also employ it at home when tensions run high. The engaging thermometer makes tracking emotional patterns feel non-threatening for young children through teens. Bingo Game - Add and Subtact Fractions Including Mixed Numbers

Bingo Game - Add and Subtact Fractions Including Mixed Numbers
Math, Fractions, Grade 5, Activities, Games

Two Bingo Games for your students to have fun practicing adding and subtracting fractions including mixed numbers. Instructions include: Have students to make a 4 x 4 game board. They will fill in the answers in random order. This way everyone has a different board but all of the answers. Put up the first 2 questions. When all students finish #1, you can change to the second page, which still has #2 but also #3 for those that have also finished #2. This allows some students to work ahead when ready. When everyone has finished #2, move to the next screen, which has #3 and #4 as some students will be ready for #4. Continue in this way. Students can use a highlighter to mark their answers. Use a different color for each game. (Don’t have them completely mark out their answers with pen or pencil in the first game because they will use this same board in the second game.) Students MUST show their work on paper to get credit for a BINGO. For the problems that don’t have work to show, they must explain their answer on paper. The first game uses questions #1-8. In a regular size class there should be 5-6 bingos after this many questions. You can start the second game #9-16 or save that for another class time. Just make sure students save their board because both games use the same board. This skill corresponds to the 5th Grade Math Common Core Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.) This 20 slide PowerPoint contains two bingo games of 8 questions each. Students will randomly fill in their own bingo boards with the given answers. All students will have every answer but in a different order on their bingo card. This way if a student works a problem and the answer is not on their card they know they have made an error. They will use the same card for both games so they must mark answers differently for each game. Detailed instructions are given in the file. The answer key is on the final slide of the PowerPoint. I usually give candy for bingos. Bingo has always been one of the best ways I have found for student engagement.
