Students often struggle with emotion regulation-- especially when their emotions get too big. This low prep lesson plan teaches students all about intense emotions and how everyone has emotions that become way too big. This lesson helps to bridge the gap between emotion intensity and coping skills by helping teach how everyone has different levels of emotions. This lesson plan is perfect to teach kids with big emotions about their feelings and their behaviors. This lesson plan can be used in individual lessons as well as small groups and even whole class lessons. This activity includes worksheets where students can work with social workers or counselors to help label their emotions and how high their emotions get. In this Intro to Logarithms Activity, high school students will begin think about the topic of logarithms in a simple way. Logarithms are so different than what students are used to, it can be a challenge to teach. However, once students can translate logarithms into simple questions, their initial confusion goes away. Their focus is shifted from the math symbols to a question, which is naturally easier to think about. In many cases, the answers become almost instantly apparent. This is an activity designed for 10th – 12th grade students. Purpose of the lesson: For students to get used to reading/writing logarithms as questions. For students to see that they currently don’t have a “tool” to isolate an exponent. (This is highlighted in Example 2 & Practice 2. They don’t have an answer for the far-right column of the table, so it’s left as a question mark.) For students to develop fluidity in moving between exponential and logarithmic forms. This PowerPoint will begin with a Do Now that will set the foundation for the activity. Students will be posed with 1 essential question, that serves as the objectives for them. How do I simplify and rewrite logarithmic expressions? Each slide provides steps for students to complete as well as a time limit for completion. This is an editable presentation, so you will be able to tweak times to fit your students’ needs. In this social emotional (SEL) activity and SEL coloring pages, you will get a lesson plan on teaching students how to cope with change, strong feelings, and other challenges that come their way. This is such an important skill for students to learn so they can weather the ups and downs of childhood. They will create a paper toolbox, learn 4 different categories of coping, and write/draw with a prompt on a separate handout. The coping skills they will learn about are; slow breathing, say what you see, hear, and feel, think of something to look forward to, and do what you enjoy. This is most suitable for kindergarten, first, second and third grades. There is some reading required but teachers and parents can help the students understand what each skill is. There are visuals on the coping skill sheets as well. There is a page of directions and a link to a video on belly breathing. “Summary Writing for Short Stories,” is Part 4 in my unit, Creating Independent Readers in your Middle School Classroom . This 19-page lesson, as well as the entire unit, is designed for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students. Summary Writing for Short Stories has two parts to it, each with a lesson plan. In the first part, students learn how to summarize. In the second part, they practice summarizing as a group using the picture books of Chris Van Allsburg.It is not necessary to do the second part if you don't have time. By the end of this lesson, students will have written several summaries and will understand how to write a summary. This lesson focuses on fiction summary writing. Summaries are important to teach because writing them helps improve reading comprehension and writing skills. However, many students find fiction and nonfiction summary writing a challenge to write because they have a hard time narrowing down the key points.It is really good practice to have students write summaries regularly. It will improve both their organization and their skill in writing.
