About this resource

What's inside this resource

Math vocabulary and fact fluency are practiced through two Easter-themed puzzles. The crossword gives clue-based definitions for terms such as fraction, factor, hexagon, congruent, obtuse, quotient, right (angle), and sphere, which students solve across a numbered grid, with a fully completed answer key included. The companion word search has students first solve twenty multiplication and division facts, such as 7 x 4 and 64 ÷ 8, and then locate each numeric answer hidden within a letter grid, again with a completed answer key provided for the teacher. Both puzzles are credited to Teachers R Us Homeschool (2016) in a copyright line printed on every page. As a self-contained two-activity packet, it works as independent seatwork, a math center, or a lighter review activity around the Easter holiday.

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Define and apply math vocabulary terms including fraction, factor, quotient, hexagon, octagon, and congruent.

  • Solve multiplication and division facts and locate the correct numeric answers within a word search grid.

  • Distinguish between related geometry vocabulary, such as obtuse vs. right angles or area vs. perimeter.

Teaching tips

  • Use the crossword as a vocabulary review before a geometry or fractions unit test, since it covers terms from multiple math strands in one puzzle.

  • Have students complete the multiplication/division facts on separate scratch paper first, then use the word search as a self-checking step once they search for their calculated answers.

  • Use the two activities as a two-day math center rotation around the Easter holiday rather than assigning both in a single sitting.

Skills covered

  • Math vocabulary application — students match definitions to terms like factor, quotient, congruent, and hexagon in a crossword format.

  • Multiplication and division fact fluency — students solve 20 basic facts and verify their answers by locating them in a word search.
