Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. The Olympic games inspire so many young people. In this narrative writing assignment, students will choose their city and sport, as well as what went wrong and what went well. Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. 3rd Grade Color by Code Math Worksheet - Place Value

Reviewing 3rd grade math standards is a must to help your students succeed. There are so many new concepts they have to learn throughout the year, but we really don't want them to forget what they've already learned. A fun way to get students practicing key concepts is to have math color pages. This math color by code has students look at numbers to determine which place a digit is in. It looks at ones, tens, and hundreds. While students should come to 3rd grade knowing this skill, I find it's helpful to have review. They color in the space based on the digit's place value. You may need to do a problem on the page with them, to make sure students understand how to complete it. When I do this with my students they always have to show their answer, and not just the color. I have students complete the problems in pencil and color around. Or, they can trace with a sharpie and color over that. If they only have the color, you won't know if they truly understand the skill. I have several of these worksheets , and I like to put them together in a quilt book to show math review throughout the school year.

In the "Sorting Non-Identical Fruit" activity , students will have the opportunity to improve their visual discrimination and categorization skills. The activity consists of a set of fruit activity cards, each depicting a different type of fruit, and six corresponding sorting cards for each fruit. Each sorting card will feature a picture of the same type of fruit, but with subtle differences in color, size, and shape. Students will need to carefully examine the sorting cards and use their critical thinking skills to sort them into the correct group based on the corresponding fruit activity card. This activity is not only fun and engaging, but also provides an early math foundation by introducing sorting and grouping concepts. By engaging in hands-on sorting and grouping of non-identical fruits, students can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. The "Sorting Non-Identical Fruit" activity is a great way to encourage students to work together and practice their communication and problem-solving skills while having fun.
