Suffix ING Sentence Reading Rings

Practice reading words with the suffix -ING with these sentence reading rings. Students will read words with the suffixes -ing in the context of sentences. Each card also includes a bold and colorful image to illustrate each sentence and to help students to learn the meanings of each word. What is Included: This resource includes one reading ring activity for the suffix ing. There are cards each featuring a different word with the suffix ing, with a sentence using the word in context and an image to illustrate that sentence. When to Use Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these reading rings for extra practice. Small Group Work - Teachers can use these reading rings to target small groups of students who need more practice reading words with suffixes. Independent Practice - Students can work independently at their desks to read this set of suffix cards. Morning Work - Students can read and review this reading ring for morning work as their classmates arrive to class. How to Make: Teachers will print out the pages and cut each card apart. Once cut apart, the teacher can choose to laminate the cards for durability. Then, use a hole punch to punch a hole in the top left corner of the card. Place the cards on a ring to create your reading ring, making sure the cover card is on top. Skills Assessed: These reading rings help with identifying words with suffixes These reading rings help with learning the meaning of suffixes These reading rings help students learn how suffixes change the meaning of words. These affixes reading rings are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students to use. Once created, these cards can be used over and over to practice reading words with suffixes in the context of a sentence.

This is a passage about the more "impossible" moments in Winter Olympic history. It is written on a 3rd-4th grade level and talks about the 1980 US Hockey Team and the 1988 Jamaican Bobsled team. These are two winter sports that the students are likely familiar with and the stories are interesting so it engages students while they read and answer questions. You can use this as a center, guided reading activity , homework, assessment, or just general reading check. The passage is available as a printable activity or there is a link to a Google Slides activity for students to complete digitally. An answer key is provided. In this resource, your students will have a take home brochure to help them think of and remember ways to calm down and cope with big feelings. There are 6 sections of this resource. There are SEL coloring pages in this resource. The first section is the cover page with has a mindfulness coloring activity that students can customize to their liking. This in and of itself is a coping skill! Next you have a place where students can use their name and use the acronym of their name to help them come up and customize how they would like to calm down when they have a big feeling. For example, if the name is Jenny, they can write; J is for make a joke or listen to a joke, E is for Exercise, N is for Try something New, the other N is for Notice objects in the room (such as all the things that are green, blue, etc.) and the Y is for do yoga poses. On of the pages is the directions and the other page (flap) is for them to write their own name and customize their strategies. One of the flaps give them the acronym of CALMS which stands for C-Calming Exercises, A-Activities that distract (reading, playing a game or sport, puzzle, word search, etc) L-Look around the room (Look for all the blue objects, Look for things you see that begin with the letter A, etc.) and then M-Mindfulness practices. These are things that really bring students into the present moment. Look for 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste, etc. The S is for Sensations. Do things that make you feel different sensations that are pleasant such as place an ice pack on your forehead, go into a hot shower or hot tub, etc. Taste something sweet or spicy. These are all the things that can help someone cope with a strong feeling.

Here’s a ready-to-go math inquiry activity for your geometry unit. Students are tasked with drawing all the rectangles they can create with a specific area (24 units squared). Then, they calculate the perimeter of each rectangle. Finally, a prompt helps them notice the relationship between area and perimeter. Shapes that are longer and thinner will have a larger perimeter than other shapes with the same area. How to Use: Use this activity once your students have already had some practice calculating area and perimeter of rectangles. You could do a quick mini lesson about finding factors before handing out this activity , as your students need to determine the factors of 24 to complete this task (1x24, 2x12, 3x8 4x6). I let students work in pairs or small groups to complete this task as I want them talking about their math ideas! Grades to Use With: This math project is designed for students in grades 3-6 who are learning about area and perimeter of right-angle shapes (rectangles). In the USA, this is in Common Core Standards in the third grade and in British Columbia, Canada, it is addressed in Grade 5.
