Differentiated Book Report: 4 Different Levels for All of your Learners in Grades 1-5

This book report package includes four book reports with different levels of complexity. They can be used after reading a class novel, or for when students finish reading their own personal books. How to Use: You can start with one level early in the school year and progress to a more challenging version in another term as your students' writing abilities develop. Or, you can differentiate for your students’ current ability levels. Some students might need a simpler version while others are ready for a challenge. Topics covered include: plot summary, setting, characters, genre, making connections, providing a review, and making recommendations All versions also include space for students to draw a scene or the cover of the book. I love to display a class set of these on a bulletin board outside the room or in the library so students in other divisions can see the recommendations of what my students are reading! Grades to Use With: Since there are four levels, these book reports can easily work for students in grades 1-5. They can help address the following standards across several grades; CCSSRL.1.7 Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events. CCSSRL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Bingo Game - Add and Subtact Fractions Including Mixed Numbers

Two Bingo Games for your students to have fun practicing adding and subtracting fractions including mixed numbers. Instructions include: Have students to make a 4 x 4 game board. They will fill in the answers in random order. This way everyone has a different board but all of the answers. Put up the first 2 questions. When all students finish #1, you can change to the second page, which still has #2 but also #3 for those that have also finished #2. This allows some students to work ahead when ready. When everyone has finished #2, move to the next screen, which has #3 and #4 as some students will be ready for #4. Continue in this way. Students can use a highlighter to mark their answers. Use a different color for each game. (Don’t have them completely mark out their answers with pen or pencil in the first game because they will use this same board in the second game.) Students MUST show their work on paper to get credit for a BINGO. For the problems that don’t have work to show, they must explain their answer on paper. The first game uses questions #1-8. In a regular size class there should be 5-6 bingos after this many questions. You can start the second game #9-16 or save that for another class time. Just make sure students save their board because both games use the same board. This skill corresponds to the 5th Grade Math Common Core Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.) This 20 slide PowerPoint contains two bingo games of 8 questions each. Students will randomly fill in their own bingo boards with the given answers. All students will have every answer but in a different order on their bingo card. This way if a student works a problem and the answer is not on their card they know they have made an error. They will use the same card for both games so they must mark answers differently for each game. Detailed instructions are given in the file. The answer key is on the final slide of the PowerPoint. I usually give candy for bingos. Bingo has always been one of the best ways I have found for student engagement.
