Fall Alphabet Memory Game – Uppercase ABC Cards ABC Picture Cards for Letter Recognition and Word Building This fall alphabet memory game is made with uppercase letters only, from A to Z. Each card shows one bold capital letter together with a simple fall picture, such as B with bat or P with pumpkin . I started using it at the beginning of the school year when my kindergarten class was just learning capital letters, and it quickly became a favorite activity. There are six complete decks of 29 cards each. I like having more than one set because I can give different groups their own deck and avoid cards getting mixed together. The most common way we use the cards is as a memory game, where children flip them over and look for pairs. But there are many other options: putting the alphabet in order on the rug, matching letters I call out, or using a single card as a starting point for a quick word game. The focus on uppercase only makes this resource useful for beginners. Students who are still getting comfortable with print can concentrate on learning one letter form at a time. English learners also benefit from the clear images, since they can connect the picture with the letter sound without feeling overwhelmed. Preparation is simple. Print, cut, and, if you want the cards to last, laminate them. I store mine in small envelopes so they are easy to grab during literacy centers, small group rotations, or as an option for early finishers. The autumn theme makes them seasonal, but the skills they reinforce—recognizing uppercase letters, matching letters with sounds, and developing early vocabulary—are important throughout the year. ABC Game – Match the Letters with a Soccer Twist | Elementary & ESL Similar to Dobble / Spot it! A playful alphabet recognition game for preschool and early elementary (Pre-K to 3st grade) ⚽🔤 This classroom game helps children explore and recognize the letters of the alphabet through play. Based on the well-known “Find the Twin” format (similar to Dobble or Spot It!), this resource invites learners to engage visually and socially while building basic literacy skills. Each card shows six symbols or letters. The goal: find the matching symbol between two cards – as fast as you can! The game can be played in pairs or small groups and is great for active classroom moments, literacy stations, or early finisher time. What I’ve enjoyed about this kind of activity in my own teaching is that it doesn’t require much prep, but it sparks a lot of focus and excitement. It’s also easy to adapt – whether you want to emphasize letter names, sounds, or visual scanning. What’s included: 62 cards total – 2 versions with 31 cards each – Round cards – Cut-out-friendly square cards Each card includes 6 images Clear visuals and simple layout for young learners Instructions included Ideas for classroom use: You can print the cards on regular paper or cardstock. Laminate them for durability if you plan to use them often. I’ve used these games during phonics lessons, as part of morning rotations, or as a “quiet movement” activity when students needed a break from sitting. The structure helps students work on focus, comparison, and visual discrimination – all useful skills for early reading development. Playing the Game After the title slide, the first game starts. In the first game there are ten words in a circle. A picture will appear and you need to press the correct word related to that picture. In the second game, there are six stars containing one word each. Again, one picture will appear. Press the correct star that corresponds to the picture. Incorrect answers will dim and correct answer will flash. Press the arrow button to move onto the next word. About the Game This powerpoint contains two different games. Both practice reading and remembering key long E phonics words. In the first game, ten words will be on the screen at any point so you can include those not participating in the game yet to read those. In the second game, six words are on the screen.
