We are always looking for ways to teach our students new skills. Being able to tailor instruction to their learning styles is just one effective way to increase student engagement and set students up for success. Many of our students, from year to year, are visual and auditory learners. Most children (and even adults) can attest to their ability to better retain information that they have learned through music and song. Because of this, my resources seek to teach students skills through song. This particular resource is aYankee Doodle Dandy Song. Integumentary System – Lab Station Activity

This fully editable Lab Station Activity on the Integumentary System is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. This activity was designed for middle and high school biology students. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.) but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. This resource covers the following topics: - Skin layers - Hair - Sweat - Skin color - Sunburn and tanning - Nails Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don't have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. You can use them as part of their mark, as a bonus so it's not mandatory, etc. However you choose to use it, it will ensure that your students are always busy and never idle. Note: For stronger classes, I give the word scramble and for weaker ones, the word search. How do the Lab Stations work? Each station is specially designed to be a unique complement to the material while at the same time, provide a valuable learning experience. Below is an overview of how each station works. In your activity , each will be tailored to the specific content. Station 1: Get Hands-On – using their creative skills, students are required to draw or build. Station 2: Research – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must research a specific question/issue surrounding the topic. Station 3: Explain yourself – students write down an opinion to a question in paragraph form. Station 4: Rest Station - students can use this time to catch up on work they didn't have time to complete at a previous station or prepare themselves for an upcoming one. Station 5 - Applicability reading – students read a short passage from an article, website, etc. which directly connects the classroom content to a real-life application. Station 6: Test your knowledge – students answer 5 multiple choice questions than provide a written explanation for how/why they came to their conclusions. Station 7: Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Station 8 - Rest Station. Station 9: Become the question master – Students must create 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 true/false questions and 1 short answer question. With these sight word foldable book, students will practice sight word recognition. Students will use these books to find, write, and read the target sight word! This resource contains foldable books for the sight word: down The pages included in this product are: There are 2 sight word activity foldable books. Both books have a cover page to color, a seek and find activity where students color or dab the sight word, and an area where students will trace the sight word. One book has a page where students will simply read sentences containing the sight word, while the other contains sentences for students to first write the sight word, then read the sentences. There are 2 sight word emergent readers. One reader has students simply color an image and read the sentence containing the target sight word. The second reader contains the same sentences with the sight word missing. Students will write the sight word, then read the sentences on these books. How to Make: Students can either fold the books first or complete the activities before folding the book. The order is not important. To create the books, students will first fold the book along the horizontal line, then they will fold along the vertical line. When to Use: Literacy Center - These foldable books can be used in literacy center for students to practice these sight words. Homework - These foldable books can be sent home from homework so parents can assist students in learning their sight words. Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing skip counting by 8 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on skip counting in 8s! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. This downloadable PDF is an educational activity that involves sorting non-identical animals. Why we teach sorting and grouping - Sorting and grouping are important skills for young children to learn because they lay the foundation for many other important academic and life skills. Sorting and grouping involve categorizing objects based on common attributes such as color, shape, size, and function. These skills help children to understand and make sense of the world around them. This activity begins by presenting the learner with two large cards, one depicting a dog and the other a cat, to introduce the two animal categories. Then, the learner is given 12 smaller cards, 6 with different pictures of a dog and 6 with different pictures of a cat. The task is to sort the smaller cards into two piles, one for dogs and the other for cats, based on the animal depicted in the picture. The learner is encouraged to observe and compare the pictures to identify the distinguishing features of each animal and group them accordingly. As the learner progresses, the activity can be made more challenging by introducing pictures of animals that are similar such as a horse and a cow, to test their ability to differentiate between similar but unrelated objects. This activity can be used to promote several learning outcomes- visual discrimination classification critical thinking skills It is also a fun and engaging way for learners to explore and learn about different types of animals while practicing essential cognitive skills.
