These letter Y playdough mats allow students to build those fine motor muscles while learning about things that begin with the letter Y. Each mat features an easy to recognize picture of a word that starts with Y for students to use playdough to create. These mats are suitable to preschoolers and kindergartners who are learning about the initial sound of the letter Y and those who need extra practice building up their fine motor skills. There are 3 different playdough mats in this set: Y is for yarn. Y is for yellow. Y is for yo-yo. Students can build their creations on the table top or directly on the playdough mat if laminated or placed in page protectors. When to Use Fine Motor Center Playdough Center Alphabet Center Literacy Center Independent Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity Table Top Activity Skills Assessed Fine Motor Skills Color Matching Beginning Sounds Letter Recognition The playdough mats themselves are no prep. The teacher will simply print them out, and laminate them if desired and place them in the appropriate center or activity area. All that needs to be added to this activity is different colored playdough or clay. These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter Y to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. The playdough should not stick to the laminated pages. If laminating is not an option, I would recommend placing the playdough mats inside of page protectors or in plastic sleeves. The playdough will not stick to their surfaces as well.

In this resource, you will get 24 different stempathy scenarios. Stempathy is STEM plus Empathy combined. For this activity, you will need Legos or the generic brand (which is cheaper). I purchased 2000 for 24-25 students to get their own bag or box of bricks. Each scenario includes a child relatable problem plus discussion questions about how someone is feeling and why solving the problem is important. Since there are 24 scenarios, you can give everyone in your class one of them and give them their own set of Lego bricks or generic bricks. This resource can also be used for centers, group work, or partner tasks. Each student also can have a worksheet (included) which prompts them to answer the discussion questions and draft a design of their solution. Students can combine creativity and empathy in this resource. Some of the scenarios are; a person is in a wheelchair and there are stairs during a fire drill, a dog is not longer able to jump up into the car, a person gets too distracted in class and needs a quieter space, the local food bank is short on veggies and fruits and needs a structure to growth fresh produce, a person is often disorganized and loses their supplies and homework and needs an organizing system, students need a structure to protect them from the hot sun and wet rain, and many more. If you teach STEM or SEL classes, this is a great way to have a multidisciplinary lesson that is hands on, engaging, and fun for kids. There is no right or wrong answer and students can really put themselves in others' shoes in this resource. I am a school counselor and work with students who are in kindergarten through 8th grade.
