Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Choose the correct verb form to complete a sentence, including subject-verb agreement (has/have, goes/go)
  • Identify the verb in a given sentence
  • Distinguish verbs from nouns and other word classes
  • Use the correct irregular past-tense form (fell rather than falled)
  • Count how many verbs appear in a sentence

Teaching tips

  • Runs as a whole-class quiz on the board - one question per slide with three options makes it easy for hands-up or mini-whiteboard answering.
  • Print the included answer sheet grid so students record answers as you click through, then reveal the answers section afterwards.
  • In the answers section the correct choice is shown on the slide rather than written out as text, so preview it before teaching if you plan to print rather than project.
  • The last slides are vendor promotion - drop them from your copy before showing the deck to a class.

Skills covered

  • Identifying verbs
  • Subject-verb agreement
  • Irregular past tense
  • Word class discrimination
  • Quiz-format responding
