Battle Brackets are not just for basketball! Students will enjoy these SEL peer pressure strategy brackets! There are 5 color strategy brackets and one blank one. All slides are FULLY EDITABLE as this is a Google Slides Presentation. There are 12 Middle School and 12 Elementary School peer pressure scenarios. Some of the scenarios for elementary school are; someone tells you to eat candy when you were not supposed to, someone asked you to say something mean about another student, someone dared you to take someone's football, someone asked you to cut in line, someone asked you to give the answers for the spelling test and others. Some of the middle school scenario examples are; someone asks you to drink alcohol, someone asks you to vape, someone dared you to take something out of someone else's backpack, someone asked you to spread a rumor about someone else, someone dared you to steal something from the cafeteria for their lunch, and many more. You can use these battle brackets for whole-class voting and discussion or with small groups. It is up to you. There are detailed instructions in this product. For student engagement, you can use these discussion questions. 1. Has anyone used this peer pressure strategy? 2. Are there certain situations to use this strategy? 3. When would this strategy? 4. Have you ever tried this strategy and how did it work? 5. Have you ever used one of these strategies and it did not work? What happened? 6. Why is it helpful to learn some of these strategies before something happens? This is a great supplement to any drug and substance use curriculum or health curriculum. Students could also fill in their own peer pressure strategies and create their own scenarios and act the strategies out with one of the winners of the bracket. The uses are endless. Kelso's Choices Battle Brackets-A Fun SEL Game

Basketball brackets can be used for anything-not just basketball! In this SEL product, students will get excited about participating in a Kelso's Choices bracket battle! Kelso's Choices are 9 ways to solve small problems. There are 5 different Kelso's Choices bracket templates and one blank one. One of the templates is nonverbal versus verbal choices. This is fully editable as it is a Google Slide Presentation. There are 24 different scenarios for students to contemplate and choose Kelso's Choices for. This can be played as a whole class or small group. To play, you give each group a certain scenario. Then they begin with discussing one of the 2 competitors among the 8 competitor choices. Students keep track of the votes and the winner moves on to the semi-final round (4 choices), then the winners of that, move on to the final round. You could even have all small groups talk about the same scenario and the whole class does a final vote for the winner. It is up to you how you wish to play the game . Some of the scenarios are; someone will not let you play, someone cut in front of you, someone teased you, someone called you a name, someone made fun of what you are wearing, someone accused you of cheating, etc. You can also edit the scenarios to make it work for your groups or class. The key to keeping this engaging and a higher-order activity is to have students say which choice they would use and why. Students can share a time they used that particular choice, when a choice works or does not work, or the best conflicts for each choice. Students can also share a time when a particular choice did not work and that is why they did not vote for it or share a time when a particular choice worked and that is why they voted for it. "The Place for Us" Comprehension Activity

If you are searching for resources to support the reading comprehension of your students, you’ll want something more than just answering multiple choice questions. Questioning is certainly a way to assess comprehension, but there are other components that can be included to assess this skill as well. This is a “The Place for Us” Comprehension Activity. It is for elementary students in 2nd – 4th grade. The objective is for students to demonstrate understanding of a passage by correctly completing given tasks. There are 4 pages included. The breakdown is as follows: Page 1 – A page long reading passage titled “The Place for Us.” You can read this as a whole group, have students read it with a partner or have them read it independently. Encourage students to highlight or circle words or parts of the story that feel important to them. Page 2 – A vocabulary graphic organizer . Students will find the 3 bolded words from the story and use them on this page. For each word, students will write a definition, give an example, illustrate a picture, and use the word in a sentence. Page 3 – Problem and Solution Graphic Organizer . Students will use the graphic organizers to outline details from the story in order to uncover the problem and solution. Page 4 – Asking and Answering Questions. Students will write two questions that they might ask someone to answer about the text under the “question” headings below. A friend will underline the answer in the text in purple and write the answer below. Each of these pages require students to revisit the passage and analyze it from a different perspective, which in turn furthers their comprehension for what they have read. I hope you enjoy! The activity involves sorting and grouping different non-identical items, which can be used to develop cognitive skills such as categorization, visual discrimination, and problem-solving. To begin the activity , the learner is presented with a sorting picture. Pictures include in this activity : dog doughnut ice cream bar apple shoes chair butterfly hotdog car rabbit socks happy face The next step is to provide the learner with six corresponding sorting cards, each picture non identical to the sorting picture. The items on the sorting cards may vary in color, size, shape, and other attributes, which allows the learner to practice visual discrimination and identify key characteristics of each category. The learner's task is to sort/group each individual sorting card to the correct sorting picture. This requires the learner to analyze and compare the different items, and determine which picture they belong to based on their similarities and differences. As the learner progresses through the activity , they can be challenged to group the items in different ways, such as by color, size, shape, or texture. This encourages the learner to think creatively and develop flexible thinking skills. This early learning sorting activity provides an engaging and interactive way to develop cognitive skills and promote learning in a fun and playful manner. This activity is easy to create and is clean and clear of visual distractions which allows the learner to focus on the task at hand. First print and laminate all cards, then cut out the individual sorting cards and velcro to the corresponding picture activity mat. If have a coil binder you can coil bind this activity , or else you can three hole punch the mats and put them in a binder or use binding rings for many years of teaching and learning.
