Race to the Top Interactive Game
Social Studies, ELA, Not Grade Specific, Activities, Games
This is a Race to the Top PowerPoint Activity. This allows you to turn any worksheet into a game ! This is for any subject and any grade level. The goal of this game for students is to be the first to reach the top of the mountain. To do this, students must advance their team up the mountain by working sections of problems correctly. Once each team finishes a section of questions, they can check in with the teacher. If everyone is correct, that team will roll to find out which rule to play by. If incorrect, they will need to find and fix their mistakes before they check in again. Directions to Teacher Before Game : On “Race to the Top” slide, edit the box in top left corner to show the problems you want students to complete. The vertical gray bars in the textbook group problems into sections. Edit textboxes next to each rule to suit your preferences (or use the default rules). Edit “ Game Rules” slide to suit your preferences. Show this to students before starting the game . To Run the Game : Put PowerPoint in presentation mode. After a team finishes a section correctly, have them roll a dice to see which rule they get. Then follow the directions for that rule (if the rule involves a dice roll, have them roll again). To make a rule show up, click on the Rule textbox. Click on it again to make the rule disappear. Sometimes it’s advantageous for the teacher to select which Rule teams play by for a given amount of time (5-10 minutes). To speed the game up, use Rules 6. To slow the game down, use Rule 5. To catch last place teams up, use Rules 2 or 3. To advance a team up the mountain, click on their dots (starting at the bottom and working your way up). If you make a mistake and click too many dots, simply click the dot again and it will revert to white. Essentially, clicking once adds color; clicking on the same dot again removes the color. Beware: once you exit presentation mode, all PowerPoint animations will be reset. I hope you enjoy! Vocabulary BINGO Game
ELA, Language Development, Vocabulary, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities, Games
As teachers, we know the major impact that literacy has on our lives. It is the most fundamental skill that is necessary in order to gain the knowledge of anything else that may peak our interests. If nothing else is instilled in our students, let the ability and love of reading be the goal we have for them. It all begins at a young age, from chewing on baby books, to exploring picture books, to being read to by a beloved adult in their lives. However, as teachers, we have a huge task set before us when it comes to keeping that thirst for knowledge alive in our students. The best thing we can do for them is build their confidence by taking slow and steady steps. This is a Vocabulary BINGO Game that is great for any and all students across any subject. Whether your 3rd grade students need practice with their science vocabulary or your 2nd grade students need practice with math vocabulary, this bingo game will help! How To Use This Resource: Pass out the BINGO cards to the students. (You may choose to laminate the cards and have the students use dry erase markers so that you can reuse them.) Have them write a vocabulary word in each space. Give the letter of B-I-N-G-O and read the definition of a word.* Students should be able to determine what word you defined and mark the square if they have it under the letter you said. (You can have them mark it by putting a dot or star in the square or by having them circle it or put a slash mark through it.) Students should say “Bingo” when they get 5 words in a row. As an extra incentive, provide a prize for winners. It could be something as simple as a free homework pass or a chance to tell a quick story about something they did over the weekend. *You can adjust the rigor of this lesson by giving synonyms or antonyms for this game instead of the definition. Grade 2 Dolch Sight Word Bingo
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Spelling, Grade 2, Activities, Games
Grade 2 Dolch Sight Word Bingo: An Engaging Teaching Resource The Grade 2 Dolch Sight Word Bingo is a dynamic teaching tool designed to boost sight word recognition and vocabulary building for second-grade students. This interactive language arts supplement provides an educational yet entertaining alternative to traditional classroom learning. How the Game Works? This bingo game features 45 selected words from the second-grade level Dolch word list. Each round challenges learners to identify these sight words, which are primarily frequently used English words that often do not follow ordinary phonics rules. That's why these are best recognized by sight rather than by sounding them out, hence termed as 'sight' words. Navigating through this wide-ranging word list helps students familiarize themselves with key parts of speech like pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs. In-Class Usage Guidance To start with the activity in your classroom or at home, print out a set number of game cards and laminate them for repeated use. You would also need to separately print and laminate teacher call-out cards. The gameplay is simple - draw a card from your stack, call out the presented word; your pupils have to locate that exact sight word on their own cards. Their goal here is getting five-in-a-row (Bingo!). You can conduct this activity in both whole-group or small group sessions--and it even makes an interesting homework assignment! Inclusive Learning Aid Resources: Our Grade 2 Dolch Sight Word Bingo kit also carries: A handy article answering ‘What Are Dolch Sight Words?’ Grade-specific sight-word lists Student record sheets for keeping track of progress. The kit—spanning across 44 pages —primarily revolves around helping grade 2 students with the language arts curriculum , focusing on phonics and spelling.
