skip counting by 2s bingo - boards 16-20
Math, Patterns, Early Math, Numbers, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games
Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing skip counting by 2 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on skip counting in 2s! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. If you would like more bingo boards to use for your class, you can find them in my store. I also have other skip counting bingo games available - CLICK HERE to check them out! Middle School Math Stations or Centers: Statistics and Probability
Math, Percentages, Fractions, Graphing, Statistics, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Centers, Activities
Math stations are a great way to get students engaged as they move about the room and work collaboratively with their peers. But they are a lot of work to prepare! This ready-to-go set of 5 stations will supplement a unit about statistics and probability including probability using dice, spinners, and coins; calculating measures of central tendency- mean, median, and mode; and converting theoretical and experimental probability into percentages. Ways to Use: You can break your class into 5 groups and have them rotate one at a time through the centres, giving them 10-20 minutes at each one. Or, start students at certain centres and then allow them to move around at their own pace as long as no one centre gets too full. I find these are a great resource as you are finishing your unit and preparing for the unit test. Station 1: Students solve four word problems using probability and statistics. Students need to know how to calculate an average. (optional: set out white boards for students to use) Station 2: Students explore the probabilities involved when rolling two dice. (supplies needed: several 6-sided dice) Station 3: Students graph data in a dot plot and calculate measures of central tendency. Students need to know the difference between mean, median, and mode and how to make a dot plot. Station 4: Students play a probability game and compare theoretical and experimental probability (and fairness). (supplies needed: paper clips for spinners) Station 5: Students apply what they have learned to a real-life situation (flipping coins), and practice writing and drawing about their mathematical thinking. (optional: set out laptops or tablets for the online game extension) ***Answer Key Included*** Grades to Use With: These stations will work well in grades 5-8 or high school special education classrooms. Standards: CCSS5.MD.B.2 Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally. CCSS6.SP.A.2 Understand that a set of data collected to answer a statistical question has a distribution which can be described by its center, spread, and overall shape. CCSS6.SP.B.4 Display numerical data in plots on a number line, including dot plots, histograms, and box plots. CCSS6.SP.B.5c Giving quantitative measures of center (median and/or mean) and variability (interquartile range and/or mean absolute deviation), as well as describing any overall pattern and any striking deviations from the overall pattern with reference to the context in which the data were gathered. CCSS7.SP.A.1 Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population; generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of that population. Understand that random sampling tends to produce representative samples and support valid inferences. CCSS7.SP.C.5 Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event. CCSS7.SP.C.6 Approximate the probability of a chance event by collecting data on the chance process that produces it and observing its long-run relative frequency, and predict the approximate relative frequency given the probability. For example, when rolling a number cube 600 times, predict that a 3 or 6 would be rolled roughly 200 times, but probably not exactly 200 times. Crayon Math: Hands-on Multiplication and Division Practice
Math, Fact Families, Early Math, Multiplication and Division, Multiplication, Division, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities
Crayon Math: Hands-on Multiplication and Division Practice This resource is a fun and interactive tool that offers hands-on multiplication and division practice and a good introduction to the idea of factors for students in grades 2-4. This versatile activity mixes math and art, as students explore colorful crayons and the ways they can be sorted into equal groups. Students dive into the factors of 24 through categorizing crayons in different ways. All you need for supplies is one box of 24 crayons for each learning group. Incorporating teamwork, creativity, and systemization, students work in groups, with each one tasked with finding a unique way of organizing their 24 crayons. There are 6 different worksheets for 6 different ways of organizing the crayons (2 equal groups, 3 equal groups, 4 equal groups, 6 equal groups, 8 equal groups, and 12 equal groups. For example, students assigned to split their crayons into two equal groups, might create a rule of warm and cool colors. They will discover that each group has 12 crayons. They will use each crayon to color one of the boxes on their worksheet. You can then have each group present their findings to the class, and in this way you will discover all the fact families (factors) of 24! Students might also start to notice patterns such 6x4 and 4x6 which allows for a discussion of the commutative property of multiplication. Finally, an individual worksheet includes a variety of multiplication and division questions to reinforce the factors of 24 learned through the lesson. This can be assigned at the end of the lesson for independent work, assessment , or homework. Grades to Use With: This lesson is designed for students in grades 2-4 who are starting to learn the basics of multiplication and divisions, fact families, and factors. Germany: The Heart of Europe: Guided Reading Level R with Lesson Plan
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Geography, Social Studies, History, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Technology, Grade 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments, Lesson Plans
This Germany: The Heart of Europe (level r) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Germany: The Heart of Europe Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Social Studies (Geography/Culture/History) Primary Topic: Germany’s geography, history, culture, and modern life Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): R What This Book Teaches Best Germany’s central location in Europe and how that makes it a crossroads for trade, travel, and cultural exchange. Physical geography and waterways , including the Bavarian Alps and the Rhine River’s role in transportation. History meeting modern life through Berlin’s past division (Berlin Wall) and the Brandenburg Gate as a symbol of reunification. Cultural traditions , including long-held festivals, music (Bach and Beethoven), and traditional clothing like lederhosen and dirndls. Modern strengths and priorities , such as engineering/technology, renewable energy, public transportation, and environmental conservation. Learning Goals Students will describe where Germany is located in Europe and explain why its location matters in the text. Students will identify major physical features of Germany (plains, mountains, or the Bavarian Alps) using details from the text. Students will explain why the text says rivers like the Rhine are important for moving goods between cities. Students will describe Berlin as the capital and explain one way the text shows history and modern life together there. Students will describe what the text says about castles from the Middle Ages and what they are used for today. Students will identify examples of Germany today (technology/engineering, renewable energy, conservation, education, or democracy) using text evidence. Key Vocabulary From the Text crossroads — central meeting place where routes and people connect. metropolis — a very large, busy city. reunification — joining back together after being separated. renewable — energy source replaced naturally, like wind or sun. conservation — protecting nature so it stays healthy for the future. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What kinds of facts do you think a book about Germany might teach you? Comprehension questions: Why does the text say Germany is a major crossroads within the European Union? Comprehension questions: What does the text say the Brandenburg Gate represents today? Comprehension questions: What is one way the text says Germany works to protect the climate? Printing Tips 1. This fully editable Lab Station Activity on the Classification of Living Things is meant to get your students out of their seats and engaged in the content. Each station not only offers a unique opportunity to test your students' knowledge (offer an opinion, answer questions based on a video or reading, draw, etc.), but also provides a fantastic learning opportunity where your kids are learning through assessment. Each station comes with a description card while some also contain more detailed instructions, a reading, questions to answer, etc. Students are equipped with a recording sheet (passport) to write their answers. There is almost no prep for you. Simply print the cards, lay them out around the room and you're all set. An answer key is also provided where applicable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This lab activity covers: - The Classification of Living Things - The 7 Kingdoms - Taxonomy ---------------------------------------------- Bonus Activities: To ensure your students don’t have any downtime between stations, your lab also includes a 10-word word scramble and word search, both with an answer key. You can use them as part of their mark, as a bonus so it’s not mandatory, etc. However you choose to use it, it will ensure that your students are always busy and never idle. Note: For stronger classes, I give the word scramble and for weaker ones, the word search. ----------------------------------------------- How do the Lab Stations work? Each station is specially designed to be a unique complement to the material while at the same time, provide a valuable learning experience. Below is an overview of how each station works. In your activity , each will be tailored to the specific content. Station 1: Get Hands-On – using their creative skills, students are required to draw or build. Station 2: Research – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must research a specific question/issue surrounding the topic. Station 3: Explain yourself – students write down an opinion to a question in paragraph form. Station 4: Rest Station - students can use this time to catch up on work they didn't have time to complete at a previous station or prepare themselves for an upcoming one. Station 5 - Applicability reading – students read a short passage from an article, website, etc. which directly connects the classroom content to a real life application. Station 6: Test your knowledge – students answer 5 multiple choice questions then provide a written explanation for how/why they came to their conclusions. Station 7: Learn from the expert – using a classroom computer or their own device, students must watch a short video clip and answer the associated questions. They may stop, rewind and restart as often as they like during the time frame. Station 8 - Rest Station. Station 9: Become the question master – Students must create 2 multiple-choice questions, 2 true/false questions and 1 short answer question. Students must also supply the answers. ------------------------------- You might also be interested in my other lab station activities Ecology and the Environment: • Ecosystems • The Classification of Living Things • Biodiversity and Invasive Species • The Carbon and Water Cycle • Climate Change • Photosynthesis • Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis • Ecological Succession • Plant Sexual and Asexual Reproduction • Earth's Seasons • Interactions Within Ecosystems Biology: • Cell and the Cell Theory • The Human Digestive System • The Circulatory System • The Human Respiratory System • Mitosis and the Cell Cycle • Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis • Photosynthesis • Cancer: Cell Division Gone Wrong - Volume I • Cancer: Cell Division Gone Wrong - Volume II • Cell Membrane and Transport • Hearing and the Human Ear • The Human Eye • Genetic Material: DNA and RNA • The Nervous System • Energy Flow In Ecosystems Physics: • Newton's Three Laws of Motion • Kinetic and Gravitational Potential Energy • Current Electricity and Circuit Diagrams • Static Electricity • Light Optics and the Production of Light • Sound, Sound Energy and Speed • One and Two-Dimensional Motion • Uniform Acceleration • How Planes Fly • Refraction • Friction • Energy and Its Forms • Density and Buoyancy Space Science: • The Life and Death of Stars • The Moon and its Phases • Life In Space • Our Solar System • Solar and Lunar Eclipse • Earth's Seasons • Asteroids, Comets and Meteors Chemistry: • Atomic Model, Notation and Atoms • Chemical Reactions and Balancing Equations • Molecular and Ionic Compounds • Physical and Chemical Properties & Changes • Acids, Bases, and Neutralization Reactions • The Periodic Table • Single and Double Displacement Reactions • Balancing Chemical Equations • Synthesis, Decomposition and Combustion Reactions • Atomic Theory, Atomic Structure and Isotopes • Types of Bonds and Intermolecular Forces • The Mole/Avogadro's Number • Density and Buoyancy These station cards are meant to be used as a lab activity but can also be utilized in a review task before a test or a quiz. 3rd Grade Color by Code Math Worksheet - Even and Odd Numbers
Math, Early Math, Numbers, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities
Reviewing 3rd grade math standards is a must to help your students succeed. There are so many new concepts they have to learn throughout the year, but we really don't want them to forget what they've already learned. A fun way to get students practicing key concepts is to have math color pages. This math color by code has students look at numbers to see if they're even or odd. While students should come to 3rd grade knowing this skill, I find it's helpful to have review. They color in the space based on if they choose even or odd. You may need to do a problem on the page with them, to make sure students understand how to complete it. When I do this with my students they always have to show their answer, and not just the color. I have students complete the problems in pencil and color around. Or, they can trace with a sharpie and color over that. If they only have the color, you won't know if they truly understand the skill. I have several of these worksheets , and I like to put them together in a quilt book to show math review throughout the school year.
