Here's an easy, no-prep partner game for your unit on expressions, graphing, variables, tables, and patterns! Simply project the expressions on the interactive whiteboard and students become an input/output machine (speaking in a robotic voice is, of course, optional). They secretly choose an expression and calculate outputs for their partner's inputs. This is great mental math practice too! There are two levels of difficulty to help all of your students participate. Level one expressions are one step (adding, subtracting, OR multiplying). Level two expressions are two step (multiplying AND adding or multiplying AND subtracting). Teacher Instructions: o Project these tables on the interactive whiteboard. o Students work in pairs. o One member starts as the “expression machine.” They secretly choose an expression from either table. o Their partner tells them an input number. They put it into the expression and say what the output would be. o Play until the partner can guess what expression they chose. Then switch roles. Grades to use with: This game could work well in classrooms with students in grades 5-8. It could be an introduction to algebra in the younger grades or a warm-up game for older students. The best thing we can do for them is build their confidence by taking slow and steady steps. This is a Synonym and Antonym Game that is great for any and all students across any subject. Whether your 3rd grade students need practice with their science vocabulary or your 2nd grade students need practice with math vocabulary, this game will help! They will solidify their understanding of the words by the exposure to synonyms and antonyms. How To Use This Resource: Divide your class into two or more groups. Assign each group up to three vocabulary words. Have groups use a dictionary, thesaurus, or the Internet to discover synonyms and antonyms for each vocabulary word. Have the groups take turns reading their lists of synonyms and antonyms* to the other groups. This alphabet game provides students with a fun and engaging way to practice on the most common sound of the letter X. This game focuses on the most common sound of the final /x/ sound. What is Included: One gameboard in color One gameboard in black and white What do you need to play: One of the gameboards A die Something to mark the inner spaces with A player piece to move around the edge of the board This game can be a single player game or a two player game. To play, each student will need one gameboard, one die, 20 objects to mark the inner part of the game board, and a game piece for each student playing. First, a student will roll the die and move his game piece around the outside of the gameboard. The student will then cover the corresponding picture in the middle of the gameboard. The winner or end of game can be determined by one of the following rules below, depending on if the student is playing alone or with a partner. In this SEL Boom Deck, students will learn about flower (healthy), weed (bothersome) and cactus (unhealthy) friendship behaviors. It is important for students to learn some of the behaviors that are bothersome and frustrating and to learn that they do need to address these sooner rather than later. Just like a weed ignored or not wanting to be dealt with, it can get worse and impact the friendship in a negative way. Some examples of flower (healthy) behaviors are; letting your friends have other friends, being there to help, standing up for them (being an upstander), and many more. Some of the weed (bothersome) examples are; bragging, copying a friend, not paying a friend back for borrowing money, and more. Some examples of cactus (unhealthy) behaviors are; being mad if something good happens to a friend, putting a friend down, gossiping, not letting a friend join their other friends, and many more. There are 24 task playing cards and 5 instructional cards so this can be played as a whole classroom lesson, a small group lesson, with partners or assigned to individuals to do as homework. There is a handout that matches the concepts for students to fill out to remember the different friendship behaviors and a question about what they can do if there friend is exhibiting either a weed or cactus type friendship behavior. This is a Boom Deck that is great for 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and sixth grade. If there are strong readers or the classroom teacher or school counselor can read each slide, this could be something 2nd grader also do. You know your students best and can judge whether the examples are relevant to your students.
