Are you ready to go further than just a simple "piggy" bank lesson and actually give your students the skills they need for the real world? This complete, integrated Money Management Unit is filled with lots of tools to develop your students into well-rounded, professional "Young Scholars" by learning how to use the basic concepts of applied microeconomics in creative ways that meet the unique developmental abilities of both upper elementary and middle school students. The Money Management Unit is not a pack of worksheets; it is a full set of easy-preparation teaching materials that will help you develop a lasting understanding of financial literacy within your students. By using a structured, three-phase approach, this resource will help students gain a better understanding of the more complicated topics related to making good choices when it comes to spending or saving money through the use of opportunity cost; and will give them all the tools they need to manage the way they spend or save their money, from using an allowance to saving up for something they want to buy (zero‐based budget). WHAT'S AVAILABLE IN THIS SET OF 33 PAGES OF MATERIAL: PHASE 1: The Textbook: Applied Microeconomics for Young Scholars: A comprehensive but user-friendly resource for learning about many topics related to economics. The textbook covers the following topics: Income and Outflow: What is an allowance? What is entrepreneurship (using the example of a lemonade stand)? What's the difference between Needs and Wants? Budgeting Strategies: How do you use a "Zero-Based Budget" and the Spend, Save, and Share Approach? The Psychology of Saving: Delayed gratification, SMART goal setting, and the math of compound interest. The Economics of Choice: Understanding opportunity cost and consumer traps (e.g., Gamified Value in in-app purchases). PHASE 2: Student Workbook (10 Rigorous Worksheets): Worksheets which reinforce the concepts presented in the Textbook. Students are provided an opportunity to practice through hands-on activities in the areas of: Analyzing Revenue and Expenditures Making Decisions about Needs versus Wants Creating and Balancing a Ledger Calculating Savings Goals and Timelines Evaluating Opportunity Cost Recording Daily Transactions Understanding Emergency Funds and Unit Pricing Final Project: Create a Budget from Scratch! Phase 3: Teacher Resources (Visual Aids & Answer Key) 3 Visual Aids That Are Clear & Easy To Use! Perfect on a smart board or printed poster style (or printed out as handouts), these three docs provide simple visuals of how to create a budget, set goals and make impulse purchases so that students can see their financial decisions. An Answer Key Containing All Calculations & Rationale Is Ready For Use! A full key has been created for each of the ten worksheets so grading each student work will be easy. These two items can be used by any classroom and a great teaching resource to provide math centres, economics unit, life skills classes or by parents who want to give their child an early advantage through financial literacy. Why do Parents/Schools love: - The unit not only gives students the mechanics of counting money but explores how to think about money by teaching about core economic principles (opportunity cost, behavioral economics). - The entire unit is in one PDF file and provides a full resource package (textbook, 10 worksheets, various visual aids and full answer key). All materials are ready to print and teach - no planning time is wasted! - Students will have exposure to real-world experiences that will help them to connect abstract concepts to their everyday life through relatable case studies and scenarios such as saving for sneakers, managing their allowance & avoiding getting trapped in the arcade. - The psychology behind financial decisions is addressed and students are provided with tools for delayed gratification, goal setting (S.M.A.R.T.) and impulse control which will serve them throughout their lives. - The unit provides a wide range of options that can be tailored for any type of student. The rigor of the lesson is appropriate for gifted programs while the clear structure and answer key provides a high level of support for whole-group lessons or independent learning. Target Market (Student Classes): Based on the content's terminology ("applied microeconomics", "cognitive architecture") and concepts addressed, the following target audiences should be: Primary Target Market: Students in 5th and 6th Grade. The material is abstract in nature and at the appropriate developmental stage of maturation for these grades, as addressed in the Introductory Section provided in the PDF. Secondary Target Market: Gifted students in 4th Grade who are capable of handling advanced concepts and vocabulary. The material will provide them with a challenge while stimulating their interest. Tertiary Target Market: Students in 7th and 8th Grade that have never received an introduction to or have already been remediated in Financial Literacy concepts. The unit provides excellent foundational material for students enrolled in Life Skills and/or Economics courses. Niche Target Market: Families who homeschool their children and desire to use an academic, complete, and structured Financial Literacy Curriculum. Guided Reading Level B: Clouds You Can Spot
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Vocabulary, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments

This Guided Reading Book - Clouds You Can Spot (Level B) includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Clouds You Can Spot Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Earth Science (Weather) / Early Literacy Primary Topic: Observing clouds using simple describing words Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): B What This Book Teaches Best Builds early nonfiction observation language by naming what you can see in the sky (sun, clouds, sky). Teaches describing words (adjectives) for clouds: big/small, white/grey, high/low, and “rain clouds.” Supports patterned reading and fluency through repeated sentence structure: “See the ____.” Encourages compare/contrast thinking using paired opposites (big vs. small; high vs. low; white vs. grey). Learning Goals Students will identify things the book says you can see (sun, clouds, sky). Students will describe clouds using words from the text (big, small, white, grey, high, low, rain). Students will retell the book’s sequence using the repeated pattern “See the ____.” Students will compare two cloud descriptions from the book (such as high/low or big/small). Students will answer simple questions about what the book tells the reader to see. Key Vocabulary From the Text clouds — white or grey puffs you see in the sky grey — a color between white and black high — up far above you low — down close to the ground rain — water that falls from clouds Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you think you might see when you look up at the sky? Comprehension questions: What is the first thing the book says to see? Comprehension questions: What are two different kinds of clouds the book tells you to see? Comprehension questions: What is the last thing the book says to see? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . How specific boat parts help movement (sails, mast, ropes, propeller). How coordinated actions affect motion (oars dipping “at the same time” to go straight). How markers guide movement during a race (boats turn around bright orange buoys to stay on track). Comparing speed and movement styles (quiet glide vs fast roar; forward motion by alternating paddle sides). Learning Goals Students will identify several ways boats move across the water using details from the text. Students will explain how sails and wind help pull a boat forward. Students will describe how rowers use oars together to move a boat straight ahead. Students will describe how a double-ended paddle helps a kayak move forward quickly. Students will explain how an engine and propeller help push a motorboat through the water. Students will describe why boats turn around buoys during a race, based on the text. Key Vocabulary From the Text mast — a tall pole that holds sails up. rhythm — a steady pattern of movement. double-ended — having an end on both sides. propeller — a spinning part that helps push a boat. buoys — floating markers that show where to go. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What are some different ways a boat could move across the water? Comprehension questions: How do large white sails help a boat move forward? What do rowers do “at the same time,” and what does that help the boat do? Why must boats turn around bright orange buoys during a race? Printing Tips 1. This lighthouses reading comprehension contains the following: Visualize on the Cover (Teacher Read Aloud Script) Start your lesson by taking a few moments to visualize the topic and share thoughts or feelings about it. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Lighthouses Genre: Nonfiction (informational text) Subject: Science & Technology / Social Studies (navigation and safety) Primary Topic: Lighthouse signals, fog warnings, and why lighthouses matter Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): P What This Lesson Teaches Best What lighthouses do for ships: help pilots find safe water, avoid reefs and shoals, and line up with a harbor entrance. How lighthouse lights communicate: a strong beam can sweep as the lamp and lens rotate, and timed flashes form patterns that identify a lighthouse. Why special tools are needed in fog: thick fog can hide light, so lighthouses use other signals like foghorns and sometimes radio or radar signals. How lighthouses connect to history and change: the Lighthouse of Alexandria (built around 280 BCE) became ruins after earthquakes, and many modern lights are now automatic and may use LEDs. Learning Goals Students will explain the main job of a lighthouse using details from the passage. Students will describe how a lighthouse lens helps shape and send light into a strong beam. Students will explain how blinking patterns help sailors know which lighthouse they are seeing. Students will identify at least two signals lighthouses can use when fog makes the light hard to see. Students will summarize one way lighthouses have changed from the past to today (keepers, automation, LEDs, navigation). Key Vocabulary From the Text sandbar — a shallow pile of sand near/under water. shoals — shallow water areas that can be dangerous. beam — a strong line of light shining outward. rotate — to turn around in a circle. daymark — bold paint patterns that help in daylight. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. These short readings fit into whatever time you have available. Each one includes a warm-up, a reading, and a set of questions, but it’s flexible — you can do just the reading, the full lesson, or skip the writing section if you need to. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

This U-boats reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Quick pause—thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Download links and encyclopedia index available here. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Lesson Plan Included Customized lesson plan for this lesson is included.
