This ants reading comprehension contains the following: Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers. If there are five to ten minutes left at the end of the lesson, the student can choose one of three activities, each one requiring a different skill. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions and three written response questions have sample answers. Flash Fiction: 24 Creative Writing Prompts for Students

Flash Fiction: 24 Creative Writing Prompts for Students is a slideshow designed for students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and includes 24 Flash Fiction Prompts as well as a slide explaining what Flash Fiction is with links to examples, and directions for the students. This slide show is perfect for writing warm-ups, Do Nows, a Creative Writing elective, a Creative Writing unit, or daily practice. The purpose of this slideshow is for students to develop a writing practice in which they write quickly for a short period of time. The goal is to create one or more very short stories of 1000 words or less. Students can choose to write to as many or as few of the slides as they would like over time or they can choose to take one of their Flash Fiction stories and develop it with the idea being that their story will be 1000 words or less. How I use it: I share 3 slides with my students each time we write. I go over each slide first. Over the course of 20-25 minutes, they write to one, two, or all 3 of the slides of their choice. They have 20-25 minutes to write. The next time we write, I include the original 3 and I add 1 or 2 more slides. Eventually, they will see the whole slideshow. Every few days, instead of writing, students break into small groups and choose one of their stories to share with their group members for feedback. Over time, they will have many very short stories or beginnings of stories that they can develop. Students enjoy writing this way--it’s low pressure, it’s dynamic, they have a choice, and it’s fun. This Jails reading comprehension with lesson plan includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. RESTART Comprehension/Vocabulary/Summative Assessment Book Unit

RESTART is a fantastic book for 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. I wanted to create a unit so teachers can use it at ease and for teachers to see their students grow. They grow because of the 30 chapter lessons. These lessons have core standards in them and are 1-16 or 1-10. Most of the questions consist of comprehension, homophones, vocabulary context clues, art, evidence, and figurative language. The 1-16 lessons have a 5-point multiple choice exit quiz for them. There is also a summary packet the kids can use for the shorter chapters. The comprehension and vocabulary worksheets allow the student to follow and learn the plot very well in a rigorous but fun way. There are also 10 vocabulary 1-12 fill-in-the-blank tests, too. The vocabulary words are challenging, but words that will help them during the story reading. There is also a 1-30 multiple choice final test. There is a research paper prompt and 5 RACES rigorous writing prompts. Finally, the students have a Student Reading Reference Page to help them with the figurative language in the book and assessments.

This basketball reading comprehension contains the following: Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers. If there are five to ten minutes left at the end of the lesson, the student can choose one of three activities, each one requiring a different skill. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions and three written response questions have sample answers. When John Michael Osbourne passed away almost three weeks ago in July, my daughter Gemma (she's 14) came to me crying because she had been listening to his songs since she was little. She wanted to know everything about his life - not just the crazy stuff everyone talks about, but the real story. I love that she is curious. She gives me ideas of resources to create based on her curiosity! So I started digging into Osbourne's background for Gemma, and wow - his story is absolutely fascinating. The way he turned all his struggles into something powerful? That is exactly what I want my kids to understand. Life's gonna knock you down, but you can choose what to do with that pain. You can choose to stay down or to get up and dust yourself off and try again. I ended up staying up way too late for about three weeks straight putting this whole thing together. This is not just another celebrity reading passage - I wanted to create something that would actually teach families about resilience and finding your voice. Look, I know heavy metal and homeschool do not usually go together, but sometimes the best lessons come from unexpected places, right?
