Biomes of the World Packet

This is a Biomes of the World Packet. Students will learn about: 1) Deserts 2) Wetlands 3) Mountains 4) Tundra 5) Grasslands 6) Temperate Forests This packet includes a variety of activities for familiarizing your students with 6 of the world’s main biomes. It is geared toward second through fifth grade students. Each section has instructions and ideas for use of the activities. Some of the resources and activities include: - Biomes of the World bookmarks (printed 3 per page) - Blank drawing template in which students will choose one of the biomes you have discussed as a class (desert, grassland, tundra, temperate forests, mountains, or grasslands) and create an informational drawing on which they will label what they believe are the important parts of that biome (plants, animals, ground cover, etc.). - Natural Resources brainstorm worksheet in which students will brainstorm possible resources that we may use from each of the six biomes. Students can look at their information pages for clues. - Biomes of the World Mapping Worksheet. Students will look at the color key on the bottom of the page. Using the correct color for each biome, students will draw a square on the continents each can be found. - Students being able to explore the adaptations and accommodations that exist within each biome. Each biome will have its own graphic organizer for students to jot down their answers. - Diary Writing + Riddle Recording. Students will get creative and use their imaginations to write these diary entries. Directions are as follows: Imagine you have just settled in one of these biomes. Think about how you will have to adapt to the climate and terrain of this land. Write a diary entry, with any date you choose as the heading, describing the biome in which you are living. Include details about the climate, animals, terrain, plants, and other surroundings you know are part of this biome. Explain how you will have to adapt and what kinds of accommodations you might have to make in order to survive in your new environment. Upon completing the diary entries, students will get to record themselves reading their entry out loud. The rest of the class will listen and guess which ecosystem their classmate is describing.

The learner is then given 12 cards, each of which features an image of a ladybug or a butterfly, but with some slight differences between them and asked to sort or group them by insect. This activity can be made more difficult by asking the learner to sort bees and wasps or beetles and cockroaches - Yes, I said cockroaches. Practice reading words with the prefix DIS- with these sentence reading rings. Students will read words with the prefix dis- in the context of sentences. Each card also includes a bold and colorful image to illustrate each sentence and to help students to learn the meanings of each word. What is Included: This resource includes one reading ring activity for the prefix dis. There are cards each featuring a different word with the prefix dis, with a sentence using the word in context and an image to illustrate that sentence. When to Use Early Finishers - If students finish their work early, they can use these reading rings for extra practice. Small Group Work - Teachers can use these reading rings to target small groups of students who need more practice reading words with prefixes. Independent Practice - Students can work independently at their desks to read this set of prefix cards. Force and Motion Science Experiment

We all know that science is learned best with our hands! When we have the opportunity to really explore scientific concepts with an interactive approach, the learning just sticks! More than that, students love the chance to do experiments . This is a Force and Motion Science Experiment for your students to take part in. It may be used best with 3rd – 5th grade students. Students will work with a set of balls to apply what they know about force and motion. Students will complete the 2 page printable along the way. They will begin by making a hypothesis, as scientists do, before engaging in the experiment. Students will hypothesize which ball they believe will need the most wind-force for motion and which ball will need the least wind-force. You may choose to have your students decide on this hypothesis individually or in small groups. When students have wrapped up their hypothesis, they will move forward into the experiment portion. Students will follow the directions on page 1 to test out the force and motion of each ball. There is space for them to test out 6 balls. Your class may love completing this in small groups or with a partner. On page 2, they will reflect on the experiment by writing their particular outcome and formulating a conclusion about the wind-force needed to put balls in motion. I hope you enjoy! This is one reason we like to incorporate music in our learning environments. We don’t have to limit music to music class only for our students. In my store, you’ll find a wide array of music resources that students will love to learn from. This is a music video for your math students in 4th – 6th grade. The title of this song is “Line Them Up, Chuck.”This is a song and video that will have students learn about adding and subtracting with decimals. This video provides explanations and many examples to support student learning. You can implement this video at the introduction of teaching this math skill. The objective is for students to correctly line up decimals in order to solve addition and subtraction problems. This would be a song that I play multiple times for my students across the course of this unit .
