A-E Phonic Game Print 'n Play!

A-E Phonic Game Print 'n Play!
Special Resources, ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, Activities, Games

Here is a fun, print 'n play phonic game for the split digraph a-e! Help your pupils to grasp the tricky split digraph concept as they play! Who is the a-e game suitable for? All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two players. The teacher should watch if two children are playing together. Each player takes a game board which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The selected picture cards are scattered on the table face down. Players take it in turns to choose a picture card. The player says the word and listens to the vowel sound. Is it short /a/, or long /a-e/? If it belongs on the player’s board, it is placed on one of the oblongs. If not, it is returned to the table, face down. The winner is the player who completes his/her board first. Teaching tips: Support children to sound words out/blend them as needed. Help children to hear the vowel sound by emphasizing it and stretching it out. Help the child to do this as well. Have fun - as this eases children over those tricky spots! What is included? 1 PDF with 2 game boards and 20 pictures all in colour and ink saving black and white. See more fun phonic games in the Lilibette's Resources store! CVC Words Fishing Game
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Activities, Games

This CVC Words Fishing Game is a simple game to give children plenty of practice in reading CVC words. They will have so much fun they will forget the hard work! How to play CVC Words Fishing Game: A game for 2 players. Simply choose and place 12 words face down on the table. The child picks up a fish ‘catches it’ and sounds it out to read it. If the child reads the word successfully, then the fish is placed back into the sea, on the player's board. Any words not read correctly should be placed back on the table. The first player to complete her/his board is the winner. Tips for playing However, the parent/teacher wishes the child to want to play again and succeed, so give the child as much help as needed by modelling how to sound out the word. It is easy for the adult to lose - just make sure the child has to help you sound out the word and get it wrong (they will love that!) and yours has to go back on the table sometimes. They win and get double sounding out practice! What is included? 2 game boards Full instructions 90+ word cards Two sets of words are given for each middle vowel sound - the first set of words has an initial sound that can be held onto which is ideal for beginner readers.

5 Minute Games Bundle: Super Simple No-Prep Games for Elementary Students (ELA & Math)

5 Minute Games Bundle: Super Simple No-Prep Games for Elementary Students (ELA & Math)
ELA, Math, Early Math, Place Value, Grammar, Language Development, Vocabulary, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities, Games

Here are four quick no-prep games for any elementary classroom. They address topics including math, spelling, syllables, rhyme, vocabulary, parts of speech, geography, & critical and creative thinking. Each of the 4 games has its own page of instructions including the skills taught, different player configurations, rules, a sample round, and extension ideas. These games require NO PREP and NO MATERIALS other than writing implements. I suggest whiteboards to save paper. Grades to Use With: These games can be used in any elementary classroom (grades K-8). They are great for the following uses: - Morning/home-room warm-up - TOC back-up activities - To fill the 5 minutes before lunch or the end of the day - As a reward for small-group or one-to-one tutoring The four games are: - 4 Letter Word Game : Start with a 4-letter word on the paper/whiteboard. Players/teams take turns changing one letter at a time to make a new English word. Play until you are stuck or time runs out. - Guess My Number Game : Start with a range based on your students (ex: 1-20 for K, 1-100 for Gr 1-4, 1-200 for Gr 5-7). The teacher (or student if playing in pairs) thinks of a number in that range. The other student (or whole class) has exactly 5 questions of greater than or less than to narrow it down. After 5 questions, they must guess the number. - The Rhyme Game : Start with a word that has many rhymes. (For example: tent, rant, king, see, you.) Do NOT choose duck for obvious reasons. Each student (or each team) has two minutes to make a list of as many rhyming words as they can. Points are counted based on syllables. The longer the word, the more points. After two minutes, tally the scores to find the winner. - Categories: Start by writing 5 categories from the following options on the board: animals, cities, verbs, fruits, toys, pet names, countries, adjectives, beverages, colours, holidays, vehicles, movies, kitchen tools, flowers, books. Then choose one letter of the alphabet. Students get two minutes to think of a word for each category staring with that letter.

e or ee? Phonic Game
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities, Games

This e or ee? Phonic Game is a listening game to help the child to hear the ‘ee’ sound in words, as different to the ‘e’ sound as some children have difficulty hearing the new ‘ee’ sound. This is a simple oral game for 2 players to help to develop the ability to hear the sounds as separate in words without the need to worry about text yet. No die needed. These children may have auditory processing difficulties, of which there are growing numbers of children. With the recognition of the needs of these children and timely intervention, many can survive school. Sadly without it, they may soon fall behind. If you have a child who cannot hear the graphemes in words easily, then find or make a game to help. This is one such game you can use. Background to why I made this game One of my pupils has a speech delay. When I introduced him to ‘ee’, he tried to sound out the words by saying ‘e’ instead of ‘ee’. It was as if ‘ee’ was a foreign sound to him. So, I devised this game to help him to hear the ‘ee’ sound in words he uses frequently in speech. After playing it a few times he is now happily sounding out to read and spell words with the ‘ee’ sound. Who can use thee or ee? Phonic Game? Anyone who is teaching a child who shows difficulty learning to read words with /ee/, trying instead to say /e/.
