Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little Activities Compare and Contrast Characters

Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little Activities Compare and Contrast Characters
ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Literature, Grade 2, 3, 4, Activities

In this activity, students practice the skill of comparing characters from the novels Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little, by E.B. White. Graphic organizers can be a great way to help students organize their thoughts. The graphic organizer I chose for this activity is a Venn Diagram . Venn Diagrams are perfect for comparing and contrasting two things. There are several characters in Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little that work well for this activity. I've created three worksheets where students will be comparing Wilbur and Stuart, Charlotte and Margalo, and Templeton and Snowbell. This activity works well with second through fourth graders who have read the stories. You could hand out the graphic organizers at the beginning of reading and have students add to them as you read through the book. Or, you could wait until you've finished reading. Depending on the level of your students, you could have them list words to describe the characters on a sheet of paper. They could then use that when filling out these diagrams. A great extension to this activity would be if you want students to write a paragraph comparing the two characters. The graphic organizer would help them organize their thoughts into a good paragraph. One of the 3rd grade Reading for Literature standards is comparing two different stories written by the same author. E.B. White is a great author for this age group, and Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little are two great stories to compare.

Cut & Glue: Spring

Cut & Glue: Spring
ELA, Reading, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Activities

Cut & Glue: Spring is a reading activity for young learners focused on the season of spring. Students will cut out images related to springtime, such as flowers, baby animals, rain, and sunshine. They will then glue each image next to the corresponding word, allowing them to work on developing reading skills, expanding their vocabulary, and making text-to-image connections. This hands-on resource can be used individually or with partners, during morning work or center time, or even assigned as homework. The spring-themed images and content also present a fun way to build students' background knowledge ahead of spring-focused reading passages. With just some scissors, glue, and printer access, Cut & Glue: Spring engages primary students in purposeful literacy skill-building.
