Without a doubt, history is a topic that can be easily overlooked by our students. Sometimes, it can be difficult for them to make connections with the past in a way that makes sense to them. Being able to provide students with meaningful resources is the best way to get over this learning curve. Whenever you have a social studies topic to introduce or review, you want to find engaging products that you know your students will be able to learn from. Within my store, you will find a plethora of social studies resources to utilize with your students. What You Get: This is a 28th Amendment Project. There are 10 slides in the presentation and 2 pages for the brainstorming chart, which is an editable Word document. This is an inquiry learning project that will challenge students to consider what amendment they would seek to have passed if a 28th amendment could be added. The presentation provides brief explanations and guides students through brainstorming. How To Implement This Resource: You should print off enough copies of the brainstorming chart for each student to have, so they can make notes on it as they follow along with the presentation. Encourage them to make notes on the back of the paper or on separate pieces of paper until they are sure about the amendment they think should be implemented. As you work through the presentation, you will be taking students through a brainstorming process about adding a 28th Amendment. Some things students will consider are: -- Issues that exist with how the Constitution works -- Social issues or financial issues within the country -- Which groups of people might oppose a certain amendment -- Finding reputable sources, without a motive, for their research These slides provide great opportunity for engagement and whole group discussion before students dive into their research. UEFA European Championship 2024 -Football Jerseys Euro 2024 This material includes jerseys featuring national flags in the shape of hearts for all 24 participants of the UEFA European Football Championship 2024. Each jersey comes in both color and black-and-white versions for coloring. Euro 2024 - Decoration: Themed Wall or Board Material: Decorate your themed wall for Euro 24 with the jerseys. You can use them, for example, to visualize the current match schedule or the current rankings of the countries. Simply cut off the flap at the neckline. Pennant Banner: Hang the jerseys as a pennant banner in the classroom. Fold the small flap at the neckline over the string and attach it to the bottom edge. Euro 2024 - Creating Profiles: Attach the front sides of the jerseys with flags to the back of profile templates using the neckline flap to create foldable cards. Sal’s Snips: A Case Study Exploring Mergers, Competition, and Expansion In front of Sal Saldano sits a huge decision-- whether or not to expand his business to the lucrative downtown of Genericburg. And if so, how? In this case study students will follow the story of an invented small business owner-- Sal Saldano-- as he hires students to consult him on his expansion efforts. Your students will be charged with pouring over the information provided, and then constructing a consultant's presentation for Sal on how he should proceed. In the meantime, students will learn about minimizing risks, best/worst/most-likely outcomes, expansion, and competition. In short, this activity is designed to get them out of the textbook and into real business scenarios! Included Materials: Instructor's Guide: A helpful guide for you, the teacher, as you look to make this project a successful one! Guiding PowerPoint: A detailed slides presentation to keep your students anchored to the content and the task at hand. The presentation is polished, and designed to introduce key ideas that the case study will also address. Types of Paragraphs: Make a Magazine Project: Narrative, Descriptive, Persuasive, Compare & Contrast, Cause & Effect, How-To Paragraphs. This fun and engaging mini-unit helps teach paragraph writing while keeping students interested because they are creating their very own magazine! How to Use: Print a hamburger paragraph handout for each student. Review the parts of an effective paragraph: topic sentence, juicy details, and concluding sentence. Then teach your students about the six types of paragraphs they are going to learn how to write: narrative, descriptive, persuasive, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and how-to. Each kind of paragraph will be a different part of the magazine. A persuasive paragraph becomes a letter to the editor. A narrative paragraph will be a personal story. A descriptive paragraph will be a travel article. A compare and contrast paragraph will be a product review. A cause and effect paragraph will be a current events article, and a how-to paragraph will be a home maintenance piece. Use one period of class time to draft each paragraph. Students get a handout with some sample ideas and then come up with their own. They draft a 5-sentence paragraph that will become their "article." After each draft, show students the editing handout, and encourage them to edit their own work or trade with a friend. You can also have students hand in their drafts each day for you to edit as well. Once students have their six edited drafts, they can either type them OR write good copies on the included templates. Put them all together, make a title page, and each student now has their own magazine! Extensions: Early finishers can make a crossword puzzle using an online website, or create their own advertisement for their magazine! It is suited for students in the middle grades (6-10), using social media platforms as a focused topic. How to Use: Start by introducing the goal: Working together, we will design a class constitution about appropriate behavior when using Instagram, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Facebook, etc. Talk about using positive language when creating rules (DO instead of DON'T). Decide if you will allow students to find their own examples on approved social media sites, or look for examples yourself before giving this lesson. Go through the 4 scenarios: When someone looks different, When someone goes through a tragedy, When someone disagrees with you, When you disagree with what someone else does. For each scenario, students will look for examples of positive and negative comments, and you can use the prompt questions to get students thinking about how people act online in these situations. Finally, collectively determine a class rule for each situation. For example, When someone looks different... we will only comment if we have something kind to say! After the lesson, students can be assigned a reflective journal task so they can cohesively bring their ideas and thoughts from this lesson together. Genericbury City Election Activity Teacher Guide: Goal Statement: Students will be able to analyze how candidates respond to the needs and wishes of the community in order to become more electable, in order to better understand the relationship between representatives and their voters. 2 to 4 50 Minute Class Periods In this activity , students are wrestling with what it means to be “electable”. They will create a candidate to run against others. This can be assigned as a group assignment (so that 3 or 4 candidates are running against each other in each class), a class assignment (so that each class is constructing one candidate together to run against other sections of the class), or individually (so that each student has the ability to create their own candidate). There are countless extension activities you can do, from holding debates to having the class vote for a candidate other than their own to see who was most convincing. You can also lean into potential “holes” in candidates. For instance, if one group made their candidate a millionaire, maybe that candidate is “out of touch” with regular citizens. If another group made a candidate with 8 kids, maybe they “simply won’t have the time to govern”. There are a handful of sections students will move through. You can provide the candidate packet to students/groups as a digital file or in printed form: 1. Candidate Name 2. Candidate Appearance 3. Candidate Background and Resume 4. Candidate Slogan 5. Campaign Stances 6. Campaign Finances You can assist them in these sections and talk about benefits and drawbacks of each decision.
