Stuart Little Activity Character Acrostic Poems

This fun activity goes along with the novel Stuart Little, by E. B. White. In this activity , students create acrostic poems for characters from the story. Acrostic poems are a fun way to check students' understanding of the reading. Make sure to first go over how to complete an acrostic poem with words or short phrases that describe the character. The characters students will be writing a poem for are Stuart, Margalo, George, and Snowbell. Stuart Little is usually read by 2nd through 4th graders. If you've never done an acrostic poem with your students, make sure they understand how to complete one. It's important they understand that the words and phrases MUST make sense to the character they've read about. For example, the S in Snowbell could stand for 'Sneaky.' The A in Margalo could stand for 'A good friend. You could have a discussion whole group first about how they would describe each of the characters. Students could also work in small groups. When students complete activities where they focus on the actions and traits of the characters in the story, they will understand the story better. They will also understand why characters act the way they do in the story.

This game provides 2 activities in one, either matching letters (initial sounds) to pictures or pictures to letters (initial sounds). For use: In the classroom - centres, paired activities, intervention etc.. At home - by parents + home-educators Aim of the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: ·That the child will be able to match the correct letter to the correct picture by initial (or beginning) sound ·That children will hear the initial (or beginning) sound of a word ·That children will know the sound that each letter /a/ to /h/ stands for To prepare the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Choose either pictures or sounds to be the baseboard (you can always print it twice and play it both ways and this is recommended if the child needs extra practice). Cut up the boards not chosen as baseboards into individual cards. To play the Initial/Beginning Sounds Matching game: Scatter the cards (letter or picture as you have chosen) on the table face down. Players take turns to choose a card. The sound should be said - either the initial sound of the picture or the sound the letter stands for. A match should be attempted with the letters/pictures on the player's board. If a match is made, the card is placed on the corresponding square. If not, the card is returned, face down, to the table. In this activity , learners are presented with a set of picture cards that have different pictures that vary in shape, size, color, and other features, and are asked to sort them based on specific criteria. For example, learners may be asked to sort a set of cards based on their function. This could include things we drink, things we ride in. Another way to approach this exercise is by sorting based on their features. For instance, learners may be given a card "Things with fur" and "Things with wings" then given a set of 12 individual cards 6 cards with pictures of things with fur and another 6 cards with pictures of things that have wings. This helps learners develop their ability to observe and categorize objects based on their physical characteristics. In addition to sorting by features and function, learners may also be asked to sort by classification. Overall, the "Sorting by Feature, Function and Classification" exercise is an engaging and effective way to help learners develop their critical thinking skills, classification abilities, and attention to detail. Overview of This Activity: This printable game is designed to encourage children to use their creativity and apply S.T.E.M. skills! During the game , players collect different Lego elements (pieces). At the end of the game , players create anything they can imagine with the pieces they collected during the game . Then, they can informally practice presentation skills as they tell each other about their creation. How to Play: Place a box or pile of Lego elements (different pieces) where all players can reach them. Gather a die and this game board. Each player should choose 1 mini-figure or Lego element to be their game piece Note: Players can use their piece in their creative build at the end of the game if they would like to! Directions: Players take turns rolling one die on their turn. They move the number of spaces represented on the die and follow instructions on the game square they land on. Based on where they land, they will either choose a set number of elements from the pile, return a set number of elements from their collection to the pile, or move backward a certain number of spaces. The game ends when one person reaches the finish. At that point, all players build creatively with the pieces they have collected during the game . Then, they share what they have built.
