A Day of Sorrow and Remembrance: What Is September 11? Tragedy struck the United States and the rest of the world on September 11, 2001. On that day, four planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the Pentagon, the World Trade Center, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people died as a result of the attacks. This lesson plan is appropriate for students in grades 3 through 8. It provides a description of the September 11 attacks as well as tools and exercises to help students comprehend and keep this momentous day in their memories. The lesson plan covers the following topics: What happened on September 11, 2001? What was the reason for the attacks? Who were the victims? What effects did the attacks have on the United States and the rest of the world? How can we remember? This reading passage for kids in grades 3–8 discusses the September 11 attacks. It covers what happened, who was affected, and how we ought to honour the brave and commemorate the victims.
