Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Students compose a seven-line diamante poem following the noun / adjective-adjective / verb-verb-verb / noun-noun-noun-noun / verb-verb-verb / adjective-adjective / noun structure.
Students select nouns, adjectives, and verbs that fit a specific line's part of speech and word count within the graphic organizer.
Teaching tips
Model the diamante structure using the reference page before students complete their own blank organizer.
Provide one organizer copy per student, since roughly nine blank templates are included.
Use the editable PowerPoint version if students will type directly into the graphic organizer rather than print and handwrite it.
Skills covered
Diamante poem composition — students write a seven-line poem following the noun/adjective/verb pattern (1 noun, 2 adjectives, 3 verbs, 4 nouns, 3 verbs, 2 adjectives, 1 noun).
Parts-of-speech application — students select nouns, adjectives, and verbs that fit a specific line position and word count in the graphic organizer.
Good to know
Questions teachers ask about this resource
Why does the closing page feature a quote about animals rather than poetry?
It's a general character-education closing page from the file's 'Good Human Project featuring Behavior Buddies' program, included as a credit/thank-you rather than content tied to the diamante poetry lesson itself.
