In this social emotional (SEL) activity and SEL coloring pages, you will get a lesson plan on teaching students how to cope with change, strong feelings, and other challenges that come their way. This is such an important skill for students to learn so they can weather the ups and downs of childhood. They will create a paper toolbox, learn 4 different categories of coping, and write/draw with a prompt on a separate handout. The coping skills they will learn about are; slow breathing, say what you see, hear, and feel, think of something to look forward to, and do what you enjoy. This is most suitable for kindergarten, first, second and third grades. There is some reading required but teachers and parents can help the students understand what each skill is. There are visuals on the coping skill sheets as well. There is a page of directions and a link to a video on belly breathing. This is a set of ten lessons for struggling readers to help them develop reading fluency. The lessons cover short vowel words with and without a consonant blend. It includes 10 lessons, 10 decodable Reading Books, 10 matching PowerPoint presentations of the books + 10 packs of worksheets - a pack to support each book. This 10-week curriculum focuses on short vowel sounds and is designed for struggling readers. It includes 10 decodable reading books, each with only 10 new words per book to prevent cognitive overload. This pack is designed for children who have already learned to blend words with a short vowel sound, with both three and four sounds, but have not yet attained reading fluency. We study the ten words in each vowel sound, five each week, and then practice by using the activity pack. The child becomes very familiar with these five words. The child can then be given the next reading book and, to his/her great surprise, can read the book quite fluently without having to decode nearly every word. This gives the child an enormous boost. The process seems, in my experience, to help the child learn what is needed, once they can sound out words _ it helps them to learn how to store the words in the long-term memory, and I find it gets easier and easier as we go through the programme. The worksheets provide multi-sensory activities to help the child develop: Flashcards of the relevant words for each sound Phonemic awareness Strengthen consonant blends, which these children often find hard Tracking skills, which are again poor for many of these children Word differentiation - we tackle confusion words head-on (e.g. big/pig) Comprehension - as reading becomes more fluent, we can now build comprehension Fun print and go games And much, much more! The systematic, repetitive nature of this program makes it suitable for students with special needs, including those with dyslexia, cerebral palsy, or general learning disabilities. Using an Inside Voice Social Story

Speaking with an appropriate volume and tone is an essential classroom skill. Oral Blending Picture Cards and Activities

Here are three simple activities with supporting picture cards to help a child to learn to blend orally. Blending sounds orally can be a helpful pre-step to sounding out words in text, for some children who have difficulty hearing sounds in words. Introduction: I wrote them for an 8 yr old child whom I tutor. He has a smattering of phonic knowledge, but having not learned to blend properly is now guessing and unable to read fluently. This is a common problem, but it must not be allowed to persist or the child will not learn to read fluently or will take a very long time to do so. If you are asking the question: "Why can't my child read accurately?" or "Why does my child guess words?" the answer is: because s/he had not learned to blend. The ability to blend is a vital foundation for all further phonic work. without it, a child will struggle to learn to read. Objectives: These activities will help a child to both oral segment words to separate the sounds in each word and blend them to put them back together to me a word. The words chosen for these activities are not written down, so no actual reading is required, for we are training the child to hear sounds in words, and we do not want the child to memorise the patterns of letters in words before she/he is able to understand the relationship between letters and sounds as we hear them in words. What is included? 3 suggested activities 48 large picture cards in colour: 24 mixed sounds, 24 CVC words 48 small picture cards in colour and black and white: 24 mixed sounds, 24 CVC words Various baseboards Although these activities are most useful when a child is first beginning to blend CVC words, the words themselves contain other sounds that will most probably/may not yet have been taught. This is not a problem as the child will not see the word written down and will not be required to sound out any actual written words. These activities are listening activities. This is a deliberate act to limit the amount of exposure a child has to seeing CVC words, before working on blending with him/her, further limiting the possibility that a child will memorise the words before learning to blend. More You can use the material to make games of your own. Grades/ages Although these activities can be used with young children who are just beginning to blend they are most suited to reading intervention work with older children.

This downloadable PDF is an educational activity that involves sorting non-identical cars by color. Why we teach sorting and grouping - Sorting and grouping are important skills for young children to learn because they lay the foundation for many other important academic and life skills. Sorting and grouping involve categorizing objects based on common attributes such as color, shape, size, and function. These skills help children to understand and make sense of the world around them. Here's an example of how you might carry out the activity sorting non-identical cars by color: 1) Gather materials: Start with two large car color sorting cards Ex. one blue and one red and twelve smaller cards with different red and blue cars on them. Six of the cards should have blue cars on them and six should have red cars on them. 2) Introduce the activity : Show the learners the two large car color cards and explain that you will be sorting the smaller cards by color of the car. Encourage them to notice the difference between the two cars. Even though the cars are different the task is to sort by color 3) Demonstrate the sorting process: Often times when I am introducing a new activity I will begin by sorting one or two of the cards myself, explaining what I am doing along the way. For example, "This card has a blue car on it, so it goes with the blue card." or "This card has a red car on it, so it goes with the red card. 4) Provide practice opportunities: Give each learner a set of the small cards and ask them to sort them by color and shape. Provide guidance and support as needed, and encourage learners to use descriptive language as they sort the cards. 5) reinforce learning: Once all of the learners have sorted their cards, review the activity as a group. Ask learners to describe their sorting process and to explain why they sorted certain cards in certain ways. Reinforce! By using hands-on activities like this, learners can develop their sorting skills while also improving their language, fine motor, and visual discrimination abilities. This is an activity grouping sorting book where the learner will sort non-identical cars by color. The design is clean and simple with limited visual distraction so the learner can focus on just task. It is also easy to create. Print and cut- cut once.
