Here’s a real-world way to help your students strengthen their working memory while learning how to use 2 factor authentication: a useful life skill! What’s Included: 6 Page PDF: Ready to print and use! 1-page handout (2 versions: complete or fill-in-the-blank) that clearly explains 2 Factor Authentication: what it is, why it’s important, and how it works. 1-page student handout with instructions on how to complete the memory practice (with a partner or independently) and a printable keyboard to use during the activity. 2 pages of random numbers: 50 of each 4-digit, 5-digit, 6-digit, and 7-digit numbers AND 50 of each 8-digit, 9-digit, and 10-digit numbers How to Use: Give students the handout and teach them about 2 Factor Authentication. Next, explain the activity. Students can practice on their own or with a partner. They can start with 4-digit numbers, or you can assign a higher level based on your students’ abilities. Once they can successfully complete a drill of 10 numbers in a row from one list, they can move up to the next level of difficulty. You can make this a regular routine to help improve your students’ working memory skills! Student Instructions: 1) Either have a friend read you a code or put a ruler underneath the first code in the list you are working on and read it to yourself. 2) Practice memorizing the code. If it’s four digits, you could break it into two two-digit numbers or use another strategy that works for you personally. 3) Repeat the code aloud as you pretend to type it on the keyboard. 4) Practice 10 codes. If you get them all correct (you or your partner check them off as you go), move to a longer code list the next time you practice. Grades to Use With: This activity can be used with students in grades 4 and up as there are seven different levels of difficulty. It could be very useful in high school special education and life skills classes.

-BOY VERSION- Why we teach sorting and grouping - Sorting and grouping are important skills for young children to learn because they lay the foundation for many other important academic and life skills. Sorting and grouping involve categorizing objects based on common attributes such as color, shape, size, and function. These skills help children to understand and make sense of the world around them. This is a color sorting activity for early learners. This activity is simple, engaging and can help children develop their cognitive, motor and social skills. To conduct this activity , you will need two large cards - one red and one blue, and twelve smaller cards - six cards that are blue and six cards that are red. (There are multiple types of color cards to choose from 1) square color cards 2) square color card with the word of the color on the card 3) identical shirt color card 4) color word cards. These different smaller cards adds variety and interest to the activity and helps individualize to different learners. Here are the steps for conducting this activity : 1. Start by introducing the two large color cards to the children and ask them to identify the colors. 2. Then, show them the smaller cards and ask them to identify the colors of these cards as well. 3. Explain to the children that they need to sort the smaller cards onto the larger color cards based on their colors. 4. Model the activity by sorting a few cards yourself and asking the children to observe. Once you have modeled the activity , give each child a set of smaller cards and ask them to sort them onto the corresponding color card. As the children are sorting, observe and offer support and guidance as needed. This color sorting activity is a great way to help young children develop their visual discrimination skills, color recognition skills, and cognitive skills. Here is an ultra fun game to help pupils learn to sound out words with both the long and short forms of OO as in moon and book. When introducing OO words, many children have particular difficulty sounding out short OO words. This game can take the stress out of learning. How to play The game involves each player having a baseboard upon which to build his/her tower. Players aim to be the first to build their tower and win! Word cards containing both long and short OO words are scattered on the table - with an 'oops' card hidden amongst them! Players take turns to choose a card. If it is read correctly, the player places it on his/her baseboard and begins to build a tower. Teachers and parents may give the child as much help as needed to read each word and turn it into a teaching opportunity. With more confident children, you can change the rules so that the card is returned face down to the table if it is not read correctly. If a player chooses the 'Oops' card, then the whole tower is wiped off the player's board and the cards are returned to the table, face down and play continues until someone manages to build their tower. Your pupils will have so much fun they will forget that they are learning! Games take the pain out of learning!
