Round 1 - 6 Stars 1 Question Static: A question will appear in the middle of the screen and there will be six stars containing words that surround it. Choose the correct word for each question. Correct answer will flash, incorrect will dim. In the first game, one picture will slowly appear (20 seconds long). Press the cookie in the bottom-left to begin, press again to reveal the answer. Press the arrow in the bottom-right to change to the next page. There are 9 questions in total Second game is similar but there will be two pictures appearing at the same time. Press the donut in the bottom-left to begin. The pictures will appear on the clock, press the pink clock button next to the picture that corresponds to the word at the top. Wrong answer will buzz, correct answer will make a noise and both pictures will be fully revealed. Press arrow in the bottom-right to change page. 4 questions in total. Last game will review the words from the previous game. Word is at the top, four pictures below, choose the correct picture for the word. Incorrect answers will dim out, correct answer will flash. Again, arrow in the bottom-right for the next question. 8 questions in total. About the Game This mix of long I phonics games will give students a perfect way to practice key long I words. Dog Breeds Domino – A Calm Coloring & Matching Game for Elementary Students This printable domino game is a quiet and creative way for students to explore different dog breeds while practicing matching skills and early reading. The cards are all black and white, so students can color them themselves – something my third graders always look forward to. It gives them a sense of ownership over the material and creates a nice break from more structured tasks. The idea is simple: each domino shows either a dog breed name or a drawing, and students have to find the correct pairs. The illustrations are clear and recognizable, even without color, so they work well for younger learners or students still developing their vocabulary. The breed names are printed in an easy-to-read font, which helps build confidence in early readers. I’ve used this activity in a few different contexts: – as a quiet task for early finishers – in small group centers – during indoor recess on rainy days – or as part of a broader unit on animals and pets It also opens up room for short, low-pressure conversations – for example, “Which one do you think is the fastest?” or “Would you want a dog like that at home?” If you work with a therapy or school dog, like I do, it’s a great way to bring that connection into the classroom without needing a full lesson plan. The file includes 20 domino cards that you can print and cut out. I recommend using heavier paper or laminating the cards if you plan to reuse them. Depending on the group, you can let students color all the cards first or wait until they’ve completed a match. In the first round, click on the numbers in order to reveal clues. There is no in-built points system giving the teacher full control over how you wish to grade the game. Clues range in difficulty with the majority of first clues harder and the last clue making it easier to guess. Press the box to reveal the final picture (the word itself). The reveal box can be done at the end if you wish to reveal the letters bellow first; the word is spelled in the boxes at the bottom, click on each box to reveal a letter. Round two offers a similar style but clues are in picture format. There is no reveal box but letters at the bottom as in round 1. There are arrows to move to the next slide throughout. Playing the Game After the titles and information about the game, the first game will begin. Students will be shown a close-up photo of an object and have to guess what it is. Press the = button for the answer and the original photo with word will appear. Press the arrow button to move onto the next question. 6 questions in total. Second game is a memory game. Starting with three pictures and ending up with six, students have ten seconds to observe the pictures on the screen, then need to say the words they remember. The picture page will automatically move on after ten seconds but if you wish to move on yourself quicker then there is an arrow button. In the answer screen, answers will flash if correct, dim if incorrect. Finally game is more like a question and answer, but in two parts. In the part, there will be a clue and 3-6 words to choose from. Press the correct answer. In the second section you will get the reverse, one word and then two to three clues to choose from. This is a pack of 26 phonic worksheets for the sound TH (as in this and cloth) specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. A pack of 26 TH worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 26 worksheets for the sound TH taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Your phonics lessons are covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! 1 colour-by-code picture for added fun! Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 23 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. Simply choose the pages each child needs and put them together to make a work book! We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Playing the Game After the title slide, the first game starts. In the first game there are ten words in a circle. A picture will appear and you need to press the correct word related to that picture. In the second game, there are six stars containing one word each. Again, one picture will appear. Press the correct star that corresponds to the picture. Incorrect answers will dim and correct answer will flash. Press the arrow button to move onto the next word. About the Full Game (available in the ppt game links section below) This powerpoint contains two different games. Both practice reading and remembering key long E phonics words. In the first game, ten words will be on the screen at any point so you can include those not participating in the game yet to read those. In the second game, six words are on the screen. Here is a fun, print 'n play phonic game for the split digraph a-e! Help your pupils to grasp the tricky split digraph concept as they play! Who is the a-e game suitable for? All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two ore three players, one of which should be an adult. The game can be played with either pictures or sounds. Each player takes a game board (either pictures or sounds) which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The adult reads a word on the word card, and the pupils must listen for 'e' or no 'e'? If the pupil has the sound/ picture on his/her board, she/he covers up a space. the winner fills hi/her board first. A pack of 30 worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 30 worksheets for the sound EA taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 30 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common EA words. This is the first lesson in the Reading Made Simple Learn to Read and Spell Programme for SEN Readers, teaching the short vowel /a/. It can help struggling readers achieve reading fluency, perhaps after several years of failure, even perhaps after having been taught phonics with another programme. Objectives: To help children develop a core set of decodable words that they have seen enough times so that they no longer have to sound them out but can recognise them easily and recall them when needed. One of the biggest problems for struggling readers is that often, phonic reading books do not give the child a chance to see the same words again and again and so some children are forced to sound out nearly every word, which slows their speed of reading right down and means that they often cannot understand what they have read. Who is the programme for? This Learn to Read and Spell Programme is for children who have got stuck after learning to sound out CVC words and for whom reading fluency seems elusive. We gradually introduce blends gradually as one word, with a blend in the family included each week. Order, outlined and steps: The Reading Made Simple Reading and Spelling programme for struggling readers focuses the child's attention on around ten words containing the same phonic sound, at a time. For struggling readers, these lists are subdivided into two sets of 5 and the lesson is spread over 2 weeks. During these two weeks, the words are practised in various different ways: On flashcards provided Sentence building with the flashcards Speed reading of just the ten words Sentence writing activities Fluency charts Games Reading books which only contain the ten words, plus the true sight words: a, the, is in this first pack. The reading books should be used as a form of assessment and any words which the child needs to sound out ca be practised further, while you move on to the next sound. Multisensory: Children who struggle to learn to read often need a multisensory approach. This Learn to Read and Spell programme uses the power of the hand to provide the multisensory dimension so often lacking in many 'learn to read' programmes. The child not only sounds out the words to read, but also to write. The words are then put into sentences to read and write, building up as we go into longer texts Confidence building Because we are working with a discrete set of words, with the same sound, the child soon learns to recognise the words in each lesson, having sounded them out, read them, and written them many times in many fun ways. As the child reads each book, you can watch as s/he finally begins to say, 'I can do this!' as s/he meets familiar words.
