The Social Dilemma" is a 2020 docudrama movie directed by Jeff Orlowski and written by Orlowski and Davis Coombe. The movie explores the negative impact of social media on society, particularly on mental health, democracy, and privacy. The movie combines documentary footage with fictionalized scenes to illustrate the inner workings of social media companies and the algorithms they use to manipulate user behavior. It features interviews with former executives and engineers from major tech companies, including Facebook, Google, and Twitter, who discuss the ways in which social media platforms are designed to keep users engaged and addicted. The movie argues that the profit-driven business models of social media companies prioritize the maximization of engagement and user attention over ethical considerations, such as privacy and mental health. It also raises concerns about the impact of social media on democracy and political polarization, as well as the role of social media in spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories. This product comes with 23-questions that will help your students get the most out of this powerful film. This product comes in PDF and Google Doc form. The Southern Colonies in North America, a classroom skit

The Southern Colonies in North America, a classroom skit
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities

This play complements the other plays I have on TeachSimple about the colonial era in American History. You can also find the Life in the Middle Colonies and Life in the New England Colonies plays here. My 7th graders have enjoyed these for years. However, these work well for all grades between 6th and 12th. History comes alive in the classroom when students are using plays and skits. Reader's Theater is a great way to enhance any lesson, including the southern colonies, either to introduce some of the characteristics of this region or reinforce what you have been teaching. There are four roles in this play. It will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Although the play was created by me it is based on an actual historical figure of that time - Henry Middleton and the Middleton family. The Middleton Plantation still exists in the Charleston area in South Carolina. The gardens he started are still there. All of my skits are written to engage students and get them thinking. This is what I call a "lesson enhancer". It will help add to any lesson on life in the southern English provinces.
