Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Soil and Its Layers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this soil layers puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our Earth science unit. The kids thought dirt was just dirt until I tried explaining topsoil, subsoil, and bedrock. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like topsoil, subsoil, bedrock, humus, clay, sand, silt, decomposition, horizon, and weathering. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they mix up "topsoil" and "subsoil" sometimes. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple layered soil drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a tiny soil layer diagram on the back and label it. The kids actually ask for these now.

Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Alliteration and Onomatopoeia word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this alliteration and onomatopoeia puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our figurative language unit. The kids loved sound words like "boom" and "bam" but had no idea what to call them, and they thought alliteration was just a fancy word for rhyming. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using alliteration examples like Peter picked pickled peppers, Betty bought butter, and silly snakes, plus onomatopoeia examples like boom, crash, buzz, hiss, pop, splash, sizzle, screech, thud, and whoosh. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the two sound devices finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "buzz" sounds like an actual bee. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple snake and explosion drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one example of each on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Life Science word search, scramble and crossword puzzle activity
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Life Science word search, scramble and crossword puzzle activity ⭐ I put this life science puzzle pack together on a Tuesday afternoon when my 3rd graders had completely checked out during our plants and animals unit. We were supposed to be reviewing vocabulary like "photosynthesis" and "vertebrate" but nobody was paying attention anymore. So I made a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using the same terms. The scramble is the one they actually fight over (in a good way) because they can't agree on how to spell "dormancy" or whether "fungus" counts as a plant. I added a couple simple leaf drawings but nothing that would distract them. ⭐ The PDF is five pages total. Three pages are the puzzles themselves and the other two are answer keys. I use the word search after recess when they need to calm down and sit quietly for a bit. The crossword I save for partners because some clues are trickier. The scramble gets them talking and arguing which honestly helps them remember the words better than a fill-in-the-blank worksheet ever did. My early finishers grab these from a basket and work on them without me having to say a word. ⭐ These work for 2nd through 5th grade depending on the kid. I just print them and hand them out. Sometimes I ask students to circle their favorite word from any puzzle and use it in a sentence on the back. That stretches the activity another ten minutes and ties it back to actual science. The kids ask for these now which never happens with regular vocabulary worksheets.

Jungle Animals Crossword Puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, Science, Life Sciences, Biology, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Crosswords Puzzles, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
This crossword puzzle is about recognizing jungle animals and spelling their names correctly. This crossword is suitable for 3rd-7th graders as part of their biology lessons or as a fun holiday activity ! As some of the animals may not be familiar to every student, I would recommend doing this crossword in small groups or with a pair, but you can use this for individual work, too. This is a print and go resource that includes answers. Students have to recognize the animals from drawn pictures and then name them in the horizontal rows of the crossword one letter at the time. This also helps to practice the correct spelling of these rainforest animals. When the students fill the crossword correctly, they will find a hidden message from the emphasized vertical row. The hidden message is: Tropical Rainforest. The animals in this crossword live in tropical environments in different continents (South America, Africa and Asia). Some of the animals also live in other habitats in addition to the tropical climate. The animals in this crossword are: Anteater, scorpion, dragonfly, piranha, okapi, capybara, orangutan, lemur, tiger, tarsier, iguana, mandrill, kingfisher, baboon, gorilla, chameleon, sloth, coati. If you like this crossword, check out my Teach Simple page for other crosswords: https://teachsimple.com/contributor/thebrightestkid There are some crosswords for biology and more for spelling and languages. The crosswords are usually available in English, Spanish and French (there are not exactly the same animals in different languages, but most of them are the same). This crossword is self-checking in the way that a meaningful hidden message will signal the students that they have most likely done it right. Grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Themes: Biology, vocabulary, cultural activities* Number of students per crossword: 1-4 Preparation: Printing Suitable for: Classroom work, homework, for substitute teacher. Answers: Included *especially if used together with versions of the crossword in different languages

So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Rosa Parks, bus, seat, refuse, arrest, brave, segregation, boycott, Montgomery, protest, civil rights, equality, justice, leader, and change. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the story finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether Rosa Parks was the first person to refuse her bus seat. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple bus and silhouette drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one fact about the Montgomery Bus Boycott on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

The Maya Civilization word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Maya civilization puzzle set for my 4th graders during our world history unit. The kids had heard of the Aztecs and Incas but knew very little about the Maya or their achievements. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Maya, Yucatan, pyramid, temple, calendar, glyph, writing, mathematics, zero, astronomy, observatory, city-state, king, sacrifice, and ancient. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Maya calendar predicted the end of the world. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple pyramid and glyph drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one Maya achievement on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Basic Spanish Numbers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Basic Spanish Numbers word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this basic Spanish numbers puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our Spanish unit. The kids could count in English but had no idea what words like uno, dos, or tres meant when we started learning Spanish numbers. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez, once, doce, trece, catorce, quince, and veinte. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Spanish number vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "uno" changes to "un" before a noun. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple Spanish flag and number block drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the Spanish numbers from one to ten in order on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Ceramics Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Ceramics Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this ceramics vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our art unit. The kids loved working with clay but had no idea what words like clay, kiln, or glaze meant when I tried to explain the ceramics process. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like clay, kiln, glaze, wheel, coil, pinch pot, slab, score, slip, bisque, fire, ceramic, pottery, carving, texture, and kiln. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the ceramics vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after art class or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a kiln is the same as an oven. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple pottery, coil, and kiln drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one step in the ceramics process on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
