Fast Fact Squares: A strategic game of math facts! Be the player with the most squares at the end of the game by adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing. This game is great for a variety of ages, whether they are just learning their addition facts (adding 1 through 6), are practicing all of their addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division facts, for those who know all of their facts but are practicing their fluency...or for those who just like strategy games! This game is great to incorporate into your math lesson or throughout the day as a fast finisher activity. Students and teachers alike will also love it as an indoor recess game . Students may not even realize they are practicing their facts or how much strategy is really involved! Materials Needed: • Game Board •2 dice •Pen or pencil Object of the Game : •To be the player with the most colored squares How to Play: Decide which player goes first by rolling the dice. The person with the highest roll goes first First player rolls both dice. They may either add, subtract, multiply or divide the dice. Player finds their answer on the game board and draws ONE line by connecting any two dots that surround that number. Next player’s turn Play continues back and forth When a player connects two dots that closes off a square, they color in the square and earn a point. This player gets to roll again! Once game board has all squares colored in, player with the most points wins! Examples •Player rolls a ”6” and a “2” •Connect dots that surround a “4” (6 – 2 = 4) •Connect dots that surround a ”12” (6 x 2 = 12) •Connect dots that surround a “3” (6 ➗ 2 = 3) •Connect dots that surround an “8” (6 + 2 = 8) Challenge •Another option for keeping score is that each player earns the points that they square off. •For example, if a player squares off a “12” square, that player earns 12 points. •This adds in more strategy for squaring off higher numbers as well as additional practice for adding!

In this resource, you will teach students how to solve a variety of friendship dilemmas. This game is played like Apples to Apples. There are 18 examples (with pictures) of friendship dilemmas. There are 36 friendship strategy cards. Some of the examples for the dilemma cards are; your friend likes to copy you, your friend brags, your friend does not let you play with other friends, your friend cheats at games, your friend shared something private to someone else and other examples. For the strategy cards, some examples are; talk to your friend about how you feel, listen to their perspective, think about your part in the problem, talk to a parent, talk to an older sibling, distract yourself with something fun, and many other strategies. For the game, divide students into groups of about 4-5. All players get 5 strategy cards. The judge begins by drawing a friendship dilemma card and reads it and shows the group. Each player chooses one strategy from their 5 cards that could be a way to handle the friendship dilemma. Players place the strategy cards FACE DOWN so the judge does not know who placed which strategy card. The judge chooses which one they would most likely use in that situation. It helps to know what the judge might choose! Important: All strategies are valid, there is not one BEST strategy, only which one the judge might most likely choose. The next round, all players take another strategy card as they always need to have 5 strategy cards with each turn. The played strategy cards go back under the strategy pile. someone else is the judge and the game continues as time allows. There are 2 mindfulness coloring sheets to offer to the students after the game. This is an engaging game to play after a friendship skills lesson or conflict resolution skills lesson.

The purpose of these resources is to explore patterns in our number system through one of the most fundamental classification of numbers - even and odd. Recognising even and odd numbers is first seen in Grade 2, and this builds on work covered here. See the resource Recognising even and odd numbers with and without objects. Having accomplished this, a natural extension is to investigate whether there are any patterns when even and odd numbers are added, subtracted, multiplied or divided. So, as well as looking for patterns pupils are practicing and applying the 4 basic number operations in a math investigation There are two fundamental approaches to this investigation: Using visual aids: Students can get visual clues when even and odd numbers of objects are displayed in an orderly fashion, which is always a good starting point. Addition and Subtraction are covered here with worksheets and digital teaching resources. Multiplication has a digital teaching resource. The range of numbers used are between 1 and 28 for addition, and 1 to 14 for division For the multiplication the examples go from 2 x 2 to 6 x 7 No visual aids: students apply the idea learnt in the Grade 2 resource that whatever the size of the number, in the end only the last (unit) digit matters when deciding if a number is even or odd. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are all covered here. The range of numbers used here are: - Addition: 2-digit plus a 2-digit number up a total of 30, 50 or 100 - Subtraction: Two 2-digit numbers with the first number a maximum of 30, 50 or 100 - Multiplication: From 2 x 2 to 12 x 12 - Division: Dividend a maximum of 100, Divisor up to 12. The work is broken down into modules so that a step by step approach can be taken. This prepares your students to: - Independently investigate and recognise any patterns or consistently repeated results when performing the 4 operations with even and odd numbers. - Make generalizations from the work carried out. - Make predictions and test them. How many worksheets are in each set ? Lots and lots and virtually unlimited on some of them. At the click of a button all numbers are randomised, so the questions change every time which allows you to create new worksheets for extra practice or revision throughout the year or even give groups of pupils in your class different sets of questions. Answers can be found on the second page of every worksheet, automatically generated when you create a new worksheet.
