This resource is a Crime Scene Investigation Student Activity . Included in this lesson is a 9 day unit plan, instructions for all the experiments and activities, and packet for a crime scene investigation. You will receive a PDF download which includes the teacher notes/lessons plans as well as the student packets. This is a highly authentic and engaging unit- it's designed so that you are able to teach the scientific method using real world and inquiry based application. It's easy to follow, and amazingly fun. Sally Scarecrow has suffered a deadly hiccup attack at the hands of a teacher in the building. Student detectives spent the first day in detective school brushing up on content vocabulary, reviewing our suspect list, making predictions and observing the crime scene from a far. Over the next several days you will ask questions, compose experiments testing the cola from the crime scene for poison with litmus juice, dusting for finger prints, analyzing handwriting and more. We concluded our CSI by drafting a composite sketch of who we thought the culprit was, serving the culprit with an arrest warrant and reading her/him their Miranda Rights. Students will love solving the mystery of Sally Scarecrow! This is a great back to school or end of the year activity . There is not a better or more applicable way to teach students about the Scientific Method. The report portion of the packet can be used as the assessment component of the unit and includes a rubric. It covers everything!

This file contains questions for 12 - 15 bingo games for 2nd grade math. Topics covered are: addition, subtraction, place value, money, patterns, properties of 2-D and 3-D figures months of the year, and spelling of numerals. There are lists of questions with an answer of 1, a list of questions with an answer of 2, etc. This way you can choose the questions that your students are ready for. Directions for Bingo Game 1. Have students make a 4 x 4 Bingo Board or pass out the included blank boards. Students will fill in the numbers 1 -16 in random order on their board. This way everyone will have all answers, but will have a different board. 2. As the teacher, you will choose the questions you ask, one question per number. Use a highlighter to mark the questions you ask. This way you will keep track and not repeat an answer. Each time you play Bingo, use a different color highlighter. 3. Ask about 8- 10 questions per game. You will usually have 5-6 students to bingo with this many questions, if you have at least 20 students. I give out a piece of candy for bingos. 4. You have enough questions for about 12-15 games .

A fun activity for students to practice metric conversions. The puzzle is a 4 by 4 grid of squares. Each side of the square has a number in metric form. Students will match sides with equivalent numbers that use a different unit of metric measure. The skill students will use to solve the puzzle correspond to Common Core Standards: Each square has a letter in the middle and the teacher answer key shows the letters only. This makes for a quick check of student's accuracy. Have students to cut out the puzzle. Assign them each a unique number to place on the back of every puzzle piece. (this is for pieces found on the floor, you will know to which bag they belong). They will then mix the pieces and place them in a plastic bag. Have students to exchange baggies and then complete the puzzle. As you walk around to monitor your unique answer key allows you to tell quickly if students are correct as they work.
