This game will help your children to learn to hear the sounds ‘ar’ and ‘or’ in words and to read words containing these sounds. This game is black and white for eco-printing at home, or to send home. A colour version can be found in the Lilibette's Resources store. Who is it for: Children who are learning the digraphs ar and or. Those children working in Phase 3 of Letters and Sounds Those children working in Speed Set 2 of RWI. Who can use the ar/or game? Teachers, parents, private tutors - anyone who needs it! How to make the game Print out pages 4 to 9, on card. Cut out the picture cards (pages 6 - 8). Cut up the ar/or cards (page 9). Write ‘ar’ on the back of one baseboard (pages 4/5) and ‘or’ on the back of the other. Write ‘ar’ or ‘or’ as appropriate on the backs of the picture cards. Find a bag or small box to put the small letter ar/or cards in. How to play the game This is a game for 2 players. It is best if an adult plays with each child individually first and then when each child in a pair is confident, they can play in together. The game can be played with the picture and word cards alone, without the ar/or cards - as a simple matching game. This is how it has been designed to be played: Take a baseboard each. This will decide who is collecting ‘ar’ pictures and ‘or’ pictures. Choose 6 ar and 6 or cards (you can choose different pictures each time you play). Scatter the picture cards picture side up. Take it in turns to take an ‘ar’/’or’ letter card from the bag/box. If the player with the ‘ar’ baseboards picks an ‘ar’ card, s/he may choose a picture with the ar sound in. Likewise with ‘or’. Players may only turn the picture card over to check that they are correct. If not, the picture card is replaced. The winner is the first to fill his/her card. Do: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your go and invite your pupil’s help, so they get even more practice. Look at the cards that are left. What sound do they have in them? This AG Word Family Sorting Activity is a great resource for your students to practice recognizing AG words and pictures in isolation. This sorting activity includes three different sorts for students to categorize AG family words in an engaging literacy center. Sorts Included in this Literacy Resource Sort words that are included in the AG family from words that are not included in the AG family. Sort pictures that represents words in the AG family from pictures that represent words not in the AG family. Sort between real and nonsense AG words. The teacher can easily differentiate these sorting activities for students who need more or less support to be successful in completing these sorts. How to Use: The teacher can create a file folder sorting activity The teacher can add magnets to the picture pieces and create a cookie tray sorting activity The teacher can place the cards and mats in a box for a simple sorting activity To assemble file folder activities, position the two sorting mats on each side of a file folder. Use the word and image cards for sorting onto the mats. Adding hook and loop fasteners to both the cards and mats ensures the cards remain positioned once sorted. For the cookie tray sorting, attach magnets to each card's back. Lay the mats next to each other on the tray, and the magnets will secure the cards to the mats. This letter V beginning sound game is an interactive way for students to work on words that begin with the letter V. This alphabet game provides students with a fun and engaging way to practice on the initial sound of the letter V. This game focuses on the most common sound of the initial /v/ sound. What is Included: One gameboard in color One gameboard in black and white What do you need to play: One of the gameboards A die Something to mark the inner spaces with A player piece to move around the edge of the board This game can be a single player game or a two player game. To play, each student will need one gameboard, one die, 20 objects to mark the inner part of the game board, and a game piece for each student playing. First, a student will roll the die and move his game piece around the outside of the gameboard. The student will then cover the corresponding picture in the middle of the gameboard. The winner or end of game can be determined by one of the following rules below, depending on if the student is playing alone or with a partner. CVC Word Builder Activity #1

This is the CVC Word Builder Activity #1. Students will practice building Consonant Vowel Consonant words. This is great for young learners including kindergarten, 1st grade, and even some 2nd grade students. If you are a special education teacher, you will especially enjoy having a resource like this in your toolkit. The first page will have a spinner at the top of it. The spinner features 8 letters: c t b n f m p r Students will spin the dial and use the consonant letters to make new words. On the bottom of the first page as well as the following two pages, there are a total of 5 boxes. These boxes are where students will build their CVC words. Each box will feature a vowel in the middle. The 4th page will have the cut outs for students to build words. These cut outs should be printed and laminated for durability. You can place them in a storage baggie, so students do not lose them. Students will spin the dial to determine what their beginning consonant and ending consonant will be for the word they are set to build. Then students will write 2 new words they have learned below each of the boxes after they make their word. This is a great reusable activity once you have laminated all pages and pieces included. For students who need an additional challenge, they can write sentences using the CVC words they have built.
