This under-the-sea reading comprehension contains 5 nonfiction reading passages. Each passage is presented four times in different complexities; starting from a simple version of the passage using multiple choice questions (picture-based) and moving on to a more complex passage that uses written questions. All questions to the passages test the student's comprehension of the passage through various questions. The objective of this activity is to help students practice their reading skills as well as their comprehension skills by using these short nonfiction passages. The teacher will have to: * Choose the level of comprehension the student can best complete. * Print out a worksheet for the relevant student. The student will have to: * Read the relevant comprehension * Answer the questions to the best of their abilities. Suggestion: * The passage can be accompanied as an activity while learning about nonfiction. * These passages can be used as a guided reading activity. These passages are best suited for a variety of age groups depending on reading level. However can be used in Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4. Charlotte's Web Activity Compare Characters

In this activity, students practice the skill of comparing characters from the novel Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White. Graphic organizers can be a great way to help students organize their thoughts. The graphic organizer I chose for this activity is a Venn Diagram . Venn Diagrams are perfect for comparing and contrasting two things. There are several characters in Charlotte's Web that work well for this activity. I've created four worksheets where students will be comparing Charlotte and Wilbur, Charlotte and Fern, Wilbur and Templeton, and Templeton and Avery. This activity works well with second through fourth graders who have read the story. You could hand out the graphic organizers at the beginning of reading have students add to them as you read through the book. Or, you could wait until you've finished reading. Depending on the level of your students, you could have them list words to describe the characters on a sheet of paper. They could then use that when filling out these diagrams. A great extension to this activity would be if you want students to write a paragraph comparing the two characters. The graphic organizer would help them organize their thoughts into a good paragraph.
