This is a set of Dolch Sight Words Cards, Level PP. What You Get: This is a 3-page printable with a total of 40 word cards and a "Level PP" cover card. Use these sight word cards as practice or review for your students reading at a primer level. Directions 1. Print, laminate, and cut the cards out. Note: These cards do have colored borders, so if you prefer black and white, please make adjustments in your printer settings. 2. If desired, punch a hole in the corner of each card and place on a ring clip. Memory Game Another way to use the cards is to print two sets of the cards to create a memory game. 1. Have students sort two sets of the cards in even rows, turned over so no words are showing. 2. Each child takes a turn turning over two cards. When two of the same sight word cards are turned over, the child reads the word and keeps the pair. The child who found a pair keeps playing until no pair is found. This o or oo? Phonic Game is a listening game to help the child to hear the ‘oo’ sound in words, as different to the ‘o’ sound as some children have difficulty hearing the new ‘oo’ sound. This is a simple oral game for 2 players to help to develop the ability to hear the sounds as separate in words without the need to worry about text yet. No die needed. These children may have auditory processing difficulties, of which there are growing numbers of children. With the recognition of the needs of these children and timely intervention, many can survive school. Sadly without it, they may soon fall behind. If you have a child who cannot hear the graphemes in words easily, then find or make a game to help. This is one such game you can use. Background to why I made this game One of my pupils has a speech delay. When I introduced him to ‘oo’, he tried to sound out the words saying ‘o’ instead of ‘oo’. It was as if ‘oo’ was a foreign sound to him. So, I devised this game to help him to hear the ‘oo’ sound in words he uses frequently in speech. After playing it a few times he is now happily sounding out to read and spell words with the ‘oo’ sound. This game uses only the ‘oo’ sound as heard in ‘moon’. Who can use the 'o' or 'oo' game? Anyone who is teaching a child who shows difficulty in learning to read words with /oo/, trying instead to say /o/. Children can be encouraged to colour the black-and-white version and this will help the words in the 'ar' family to be established firmly in the child's mind. There are 3 boards with matching picture/word cards in both black and white and colour. Aim of the game : To help children to be able to sound out, or recognise, words with ‘ar’ in them, quickly. How to prepare the game : Choose either black and white or coloured. The children can colour the black and white boards which will help to fix the words together in their minds as being in the same family. The game boards come in pairs: For each pair choose one to be a board and cut the other up into individual picture/word cards. If only two people are playing then they can choose which sets of pictures and cards they use. How to play: This is a game for two or three players. The teacher should watch if two children are playing together. Each player takes a game board. The matching letter/picture cards are scattered on the table face down. Players take it in turns to choose a card from the table. The child looks to see if s/he has the matching word or picture on his/her board. If so, the card is placed in position on the board. If not, it is returned to the pool on the table. The winner is the first person to complete his/her board. Teaching tips: Support children to sound words out/blend them as needed. Help children to see and use the ‘ar’ sound to read the words.
