Science Coloring Pages: Daffodils
Creative Arts, Art, Science, Life Sciences, Nature & Plants, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities

Science Coloring Pages: Daffodils Here is a picture of Daffodils for children to colour this spring! Who is this colouring picture of a Daffodil for? Anybody. Older children will extend the activity further than younger ones, Uses for these colouring sheets Use to help children learn the name of the Daffodil and to recognise them. Use as part of a science lesson Use for a basis for collage work Paint or colour. Use to make Mother's Day cards The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Daffodil picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super made into a spring greeting card of all kinds. But it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects - such as the Daffodil, which are so common in springtime, to teach much about the natural world? Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Daffodil: ask questions: Where are the petals? What is this part called? Colouring a picture of Daffodils can also help children to become familiar with the particular characteristics of a flower - its shape, colour, and special features, for example. It is best if children colour the Daffoldil picture following close observation, or from reference books, or after having looked at Daffodils in real life. Why not take a bunch into the classroom and watch the buds unfold? Write a Daffodil diary. You could even use our Daffodil Lesson Resource Pack and PowerPoint to extend the lesson! What is included in the pack? 1 sheet to be coloured 1 sheet giving an example of how the picture could be coloured.

Animal Dominoes Game

Animal Dominoes Game
Math, Numbers, Science, Life Sciences, Animals, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities, Games

If there is one thing we can count on young learners to absolutely love, it would be animals! From a very young age, many young children strike an interest in animals of all kinds. We know that incorporating interests in our lessons can increase student engagement. There are many ways to incorporate animals into learning! This is an Animal Dominoes Game. There are 3 pages included. There are 10 dominoes on each page, so there are 30 dominoes in all. You will print these pages on card stock and laminate them for durability before cutting them out. Just like the classic game of dominoes, students will work to match up a pair of equal dominoes. This can be played in partners or in small groups of 3-4 students. Skills practiced with this game: --Finding the total (as students will have to count the total number of animals to ensure they have an equal pair) --Animal identification --Animal names --Counting Because there is counting and totals involved, this makes a great math center or a math small group activity. This is a packet for Author’s Point of View Informational Packet. This was designed for your 3rd and 4th grade reading students. The learning objective is Identifying the author’spoint of view and developing our own points of view in nonfiction text. Included are a slideshow and a printable worksheet set. The slideshow has a set of 18 editable slides. Within the slideshow, students will be presented with many questions at the beginning to allow them to explore and deepen their understanding of author’s point of view. Students will be presented with many questions: -What do we mean by author’s point of view? -What is the author’s attitude or opinion about the topic? Does the author share his or her opinion about the topic? If so, what is it? -What message is the author trying to send? Why has the author written the text? Does the author want to influence your opinion on the topic? -What kind of words does the author use to help make his or her feelings known? What kind of verbs, adverbs, and adjectives are in the text? Within the slideshow, students will get a chance to practice identifying the point of view. There are 6 different informational texts to practice with. For each informational text, there will be 5 questions for students to ask themselves. Because there are 6 practice texts, you can choose to break up the texts. You may begin modeling the first 2 texts without any input from students. Allowing students to see your thought process out loud will help them begin to properly think out loud. With the next 2 texts, students can work in partners or small groups to answer the questions. For the final 2 texts, students can complete them independently by writing their answers on a piece of paper and then discussing their answers out loud. The PDF included has each of the informational texts and their questions in a printable form.
