In this 7-slide Google Slides Lesson Presentation, students will learn about the Traffic Light Feelings. This is a self-regulation tool that helps students identify when they are being unsafe, have a big emotion, and need to stop. Red feelings are feelings that are BIG such as really angry, scared, unsafe, or out of control. Students will learn the phrase STOP, SLOW AND GO strategy. The yellow light represents feelings that are silly, excited, worried, stressed, or frustrated. The green light represents feelings that are good for class, with peers in the class or when they need to focus on a task. There is a sorting activity with 18 sorting cards. Some of the scenarios on the cards are; kids who are too excited and silly with their parent, a child who is very upset and visibly crying, 2 kids arguing, 2 kids fighting, a child who is calm, a child who is reading, a child who is proud about graduating, a child who is raising their hand, a child in their own personal space bubble, a child who is frustrated about breaking a toy, a child who is thinking, a child who is running from a crocodile, children who are jumping in excitement, a child scared about talking in front of an audience, etc. First, you can show the 7 slide presentation with animations throughout the presentation. Next, the students will work in partners/group to do the sorting activity. They will get a sorting sheet and 18 cards. Print off a sorting sheet and 18 cards for each partnership/group. Lastly, invite students back at their own desk to color in their traffic light coloring sheet and think of the different feelings represented in each light. There are 7 slides in the presentation for the class and there are 5 slides that contain the sorting activity, sorting cards, and coloring sheet. Environmental Consumer Health: 4th and 5th Grade Unit 7 For 4th and 5th Grade Health, there are seven standards that students will practice and learn. Through using this Environmental Consumer Health: 4th and 5th Grade Health Unit 7 students will explore and learn to identify daily healthy habits. This Environmental Consumer Health Unit 7, is full of engaging worksheets to help students learn about their environment in an educational way as it pertains to their own health and the health of others. In this unit, students will be educated on the pollution that effects the land, water, and air in their neighborhood and community. They will also identify solutions to stop the pollution. Along with that, they will discover ways to help the environment by reducing, recycling, and reusing products. Advertisers use tricky ways to convince consumers that unhealthy food is beneficial to them. Kids will learn about these tricky strategies and the messages that advertisers use that convince the public to use these unhealthy products. In addition, students will have the opportunity to draw their own advertisement to help stop the spread of a disease outbreak in a community. Lastly, there is an assessment to check for understanding. This Environmental Consumer Health unit is the perfect way for teachers and parents to help their students understand the importance of health in a community and teaches students a way to develop healthy habits for life! This unit focuses only on the Long A sounds. Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on each of the long vowels with a combination of different letters. Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long A sounds. Activities include: - Reading comprehension and identifying the Long A in their reading - Writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph - Identifying additional Long A words in sentences using a word bank - Matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long A sound - and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long A words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long A sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long A Word sounds: AY, AI, A_E, EIGH, EY, and EA. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long A sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 29 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Mo Willems is the author of the Pigeon book series. The books contain large amounts of vocabulary designed for k-2nd graders. However, the pictures are so simple and adorable, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I adore this series so much that i have collected all of them despite that my son is almost 20 years old. As a result, I created the first of what I hope to be a series of reading comprehension and guided reading activity packs to make learning more fun for early elementary students as well as special education students and those with special needs in the areas of speech and communication. The book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late," is required reading in order for students to complete all of the activities. It is available for purchase at Amazon and at Mo Willems own website. You can also find it at your local library to check out. Students will practice reading and learn about grammar, spelling, and increase vocabulary.
