Realistic Fiction Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Realistic Fiction Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Realistic Fiction Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this realistic fiction terms puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our reading unit. The kids could read stories about kids like them but had no idea what words like realistic, ordinary, or problem meant when we talked about what makes a story realistic fiction. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like realistic, ordinary, problem, solution, feeling, school, family, friend, character, and setting. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the realistic fiction vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a story can be realistic fiction if it has talking animals. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple school, house, and friend drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a short realistic fiction story using three words from the puzzle on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Creative Writing Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this creative writing terms puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our writing unit. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like plot, setting, character, conflict, resolution, theme, dialogue, narration, description, imagery, mood, tone, voice, point of view, first person, third person, and creative. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the creative writing vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or during writing workshop. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the plot and theme are the same thing. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple quill, notebook, and thought bubble drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one element they always include in their stories on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the big picture make sense. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. Equations and Inequalities word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this equations and inequalities puzzle set for my 5th graders during our algebra unit. The kids knew how to balance simple equations but had no idea what an inequality was or what symbols like <, >, or ≠ meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like equation, equal, inequality, greater than, less than, not equal, solve, solution, variable, balance, both sides, isolate, check, true, and false. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the equation and inequality terms finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether x > 3 includes the number 3. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple balance scale and alligator mouth drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write an inequality for "temperature is less than 32 degrees" on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Basic Spanish Greetings word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this basic Spanish greetings puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our Spanish unit. The kids could say hello in English but had no idea what words like hola, adiós, or gracias meant when we started learning Spanish greetings. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like hola, adiós, gracias, por favor, de nada, buenos días, buenas tardes, buenas noches, ¿cómo estás?, bien, mal, and hasta luego. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the Spanish greeting vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "buenos días" is used before or after noon. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple waving hand and smiley face drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write three Spanish greetings they can use in class on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

African Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

African Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

African Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this African culture vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our social studies and cultural unit. The kids could name a few African countries but had no idea what words like Adinkra, djembé, or kente meant when we started learning about the rich and diverse cultures of Africa. I wanted to introduce them to a few key ideas like oral tradition, symbolic art, and the importance of community without making it feel like a lecture . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Africa , culture , tradition , oral history , griot (storyteller), kente (traditional cloth), djembé (drum), Sahara (desert), Nile (river), savanna , and community . For the culture terms, I drew on resources that highlighted concepts like Ubuntu (the idea of interconnectedness) and practices like scarification and ceremonial objects like the nkisi power figure and the Oba (king of Benin), although I kept it simple for this age group . I also pulled a few Swahili words like Jambo (hello) and Kwaheri (goodbye) because they're fun for the kids to learn . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the cultural and geographical vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the Nile is the longest river in the world. The crossword I use for partners or as a review . I added a couple simple djembe and kente pattern drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own Adinkra symbol or write one thing they learned about a country in Africa on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Narrative Writing Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this narrative writing puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our writing unit. The kids could tell a story but had no idea what words like characters, setting, plot, or dialogue meant when I asked them to include them. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like character, setting, plot, conflict, resolution, narrator, dialogue, description, action, beginning, middle, end, problem, solution, and sequence. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the narrative terms finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a story needs a conflict to be interesting. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple open book and quill drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name the characters and setting of their favorite book on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Global Warming and Climate Change word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this global warming and climate change puzzle set for my 4th graders during our Earth science unit. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary make sense without scaring them. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page.
