Bill of Rights Word Scramble Worksheet
Hey fellow teachers! Here's a word scramble I use when we study the Constitution in my 5th grade class. This 2-page printable has 24 scrambled terms from the Bill of Rights that kids need to unscramble.
You'll find:
Basic terms like "vote" and "jury"
Challenging words like "amendment" and "petition"
Important concepts like "speech" and "bear arms"
I made the font size nice and big so it's easy to read. The second page has all the answers - super helpful when you need to check work fast!
My students actually enjoy this activity more than I expected. Last year, we turned it into a race where teams worked together to unscramble the words. It really helped them remember the vocabulary when we moved on to discussing the amendments.
Great for:
Constitution Day activities
Government units
Morning work during social studies
Review before tests
Some kids get stuck on "establishment" at first, but it's a good chance to talk about what that word means in the First Amendment. The word "warrant" always sparks interesting discussions too!
Just print and hand out - no fancy prep needed. I like to use parchment-style paper to make it feel more historical when we're doing our Constitution unit.
Word examples:
freedom (easy)
assembly (medium)
indictment (challenge)
Format: PDF with activity sheet and answer key
Teacher tip: Have students star the amendment they think is most important!
