Day of Persons with Disabilities word Scramble puzzle worksheet activity

Day of Persons with Disabilities Word Scramble – Unscramble & Understand!

I made this activity for my 4th grade class to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec 3rd). Kids unscramble 24 words like "inclusion," "wheelchair," and "Braille"—then match them to symbols on page 2 (like the accessibility logo). Last year, my students asked to design their own disability awareness posters after solving it!

What’s Inside:
2 printable pages (scramble + answer key)
Bonus "How Can I Help?" pledge (students list acts of kindness)
Diverse ability symbols (ASL, guide dog, etc.)

Real Classroom Moment:
"A student with dyslexia proudly solved ‘YSDXELIA’ first—their smile lit up the room!" —Ms. Lee, Inclusion Teacher

Perfect For:
• December awareness activities
• SEL lessons on empathy
• Buddy programs
• School-wide diversity week

Sample Scrambles:

  • REEACESS (Answer: access)

  • NISULCONI (Answer: inclusion)

  • GNISLAN (Answer: signing)

Teacher Tip:
Pair with "Just Ask!" by Sonia Sotomayor—have students unscramble words as you read about different abilities!
