Music around the World - My Musical World Journey - Passport & Profile This passport accompanies a series of lessons or a year-long project on music around the world or through Europe. Profiles: The students deal with music, songs, and dances from different countries and record important information, impressions, and thoughts about the music they have heard in a profile: Continent Title/Artist Style Typical Instruments Particularities Star rating (1-5) The flag in the wanted poster can be painted, or the colored variant can be used. In addition, there is a blank template without predefined country names and flags. Passport These 40th countries are included: Nordamerica: United States of America, Canada, Bahamas, Mexico, Puerto Rico South America: Argentina, Jamaica, Peru, Brazil Africa: Egypt, South-Africa Asia: South Korea, North Korea, India, Israel, China, Thailand, Japan, Saudi - Arabia Australia: Australia Oceania: New Zealand Europe: Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Iceland, Belgium, Scotland, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Netherlands, Switzerland, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Russia If a country has been “traveled”, a suitable passport stamp in color or black and white can be glued in. This is an excerpt that comes from the eBook titled “Middle Schoolin: 50 Stories about the Challenges, Humor, and Rewards of Teaching” written by Paul Rallion. This is from Chapter 33 titled Water Bottle Rockets. In science class, it is important to incorporate hands-on activities because students learn better by doing, according to John Dewey, considered by many the father of modern education. I remember when I was in second grade and my teacher talked about erosion. We went on a field trip to see an arid field with poor or no irrigation, and I was able to see what erosion was and what a field looked like when it occurred. I am sure it would have taken longer for me to learn what erosion was without that field trip. Now I found myself teaching Newton’s laws of motion. These three laws deal with how objects behave at rest and in motion. They are difficult concepts for some students to absorb at the middle school level. Doing this experiment helped my students grab the concept of Newton’s laws of motion better than if I had just talked about them. Students enjoy a hands-on experiment more than a lecture or reading a book. The bottom line is, if you teach science, do hands-on activities and experiments whenever possible. I hope you enjoy! This downloadable PDF educational activity can help learners develop their sorting and classification skills. In this activity , learners are presented with a set of picture cards that have different pictures that vary in shape, size, color, and other features, and are asked to sort them based on specific criteria. For example, learners may be asked to sort a set of cards based on their function. This could include things we drink, things we ride in. Another way to approach this exercise is by sorting based on their features. For instance, learners may be given a card "Things with fur" and "Things with wings" then given a set of 12 individual cards 6 cards with pictures of things with fur and another 6 cards with pictures of things that have wings. This helps learners develop their ability to observe and categorize objects based on their physical characteristics. In addition to sorting by features and function, learners may also be asked to sort by classification. Overall, the "Sorting by Feature, Function and Classification" exercise is an engaging and effective way to help learners develop their critical thinking skills, classification abilities, and attention to detail.
