There are a lot of hands on learning included with minimal material required. If you do not have the required material (yard stick, Styrofoam balls and flashlight) it is totally fine! You can improvise OR completely omit. Through these activities, students will be able to visualize the eclipse and understand the positioning of the sun, moon and Earth when a solar eclipse occurs. Students can read through the Folklore that describes what Ancient civilizations thought was going on when a solar eclipse occurred so they can really dive into the history of solar eclipses. Pictures and videos are also included to help students visualize what is happening millions of miles away in our sky. Full teacher directions and answer keys are included. Can middle school students learn about global warming, climate change, and carbon emissions in an age-appropriate way? Can they determine their personal carbon footprint?
