This is an engaging math project that lets students apply math skills to a realistic situation: opening their own store! Grades to Use With: This project is perfect to use with your middle grades students in grades 5-8. It could also be a great addition to a high school life skills class studying finance, business, or careers. How to Use: Each of your students has won $2,000,000 in the lottery, and they are going to use it to open their very own store! They create a budget for a new business venture by considering the costs to rent a commercial storefront in your area, pay employees, and buy all of the supplies and stock they will need. They can do research on the internet to find out the prices of rental properties and the supplies they will need. They can do decimal calculations by hand or with a calculator. This will include adding decimals and multiplying decimals. Extension: Students who finish early can create an advertisement to attract customers to their new store. You could even have a day where each student presents their unique store idea to the class. What's Included: A total of 5 pages: Title Page and 4 page PDF assignment Standards: CCSS5.NBT.B.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. TinkerCAD step-by-step instructions for 3 different whistles. Students only need to know the bare basics to complete this. I tested this with a fifth-grade class and most could complete it with no help. Designed to print with no supports for easy printing. PDF file with TinkerCAD step-by-step instructions for 3 different whistles with 32 pages. I have used this instructions with students as young as 5th grade and as high as 12th grade. The 5th graders needed some help and guidance but middle schoolers and high school students usually did not need any help at all. 5th and 6th grade classes took about 2 hours to finish the project. Middle schoolers took about 1 hour, and high school students took about 30-40 minutes to finish. The referee whistle works like a regular whistle. The slide whistle works and make different sounds be sliding the insert back and forth to make different pitches. The train whistle works by having different lengths of hollowed out tubes which generate different pitches. Very detailed instructions. Students are expected to be familiar with TinkerCAD, and know the basics. There is a TinkerCAD tool guide within the instructions to aid in learning TinkerCAD. Math Project: How to Make Circle Graphs and Pie Charts

This fun math project includes clear step-by-step instructions to show your students how to make a circle graph. This is a great way to review several math skills while showing how useful they can be! Tasks include: - Writing a survey question: Your students learn to write a question that has exactly six possible answers. - Collecting data: Your students can ask the members of your class their question. They collect data using a tally chart. They need to ask exactly 25 people. - Recording results as a fraction: Once they have their data, they can turn each answer into a fraction with a denominator of 25. - Calculating an equivalent fraction: Then, they calculate an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. - Working with percent (written as a decimal): Finally, they turn that fraction into a percent in decimal form. They use this percent to multiply by 360 degrees in a circle (they can use a calculator for this part) to find out how many degrees each answer gets. - Drawing angles with a protractor: They carefully draw the six angles in their pie chart, one by one. - Labeling a graph: They label the graph to make it clear for others to read. Grades to Use WIth: This math project works well in the middle grades (4-8) when students know how to use protractors, calculate with fractions and decimals, and make graphs. It could also work well in a high school special education classroom. Coelacanth is one of the most popular pieces of evidence that evolutionary scientists use to prove their theory about the age of the earth. But Coelacanth was discovered living in the early 20th century. Not only was this “extinct” fish discovered alive and well, but it was also apparently the same with no major changes compared to the original fossil discovered and dated 65 million years. So, if macroevolution is true, should the coelacanth still be used as evidence of evolution or old age. If so, why are there no apparent changes in this specific animal? These are questions to be pondered by students who read the short article and answer the questions included in the activity. This reading comprehension activity includes the link to the article discussing the discovery and what this might mean to the overall picture painted for the public regarding the evidence. This activity can be used for guided reading as well as increasing vocabulary and practice critically evaluating both sides of a controversial topic: Creation vs Evolution. The answer key is included. Teachers can easily use this as a starting point for deeper research on the subject. As you introduce and review new topics with your art students, you may want to ensure that you have quality resources that will allow them to express their understanding of the concept. Art can be concrete and abstract simultaneously! Because of this, we want to assess mastery in the best ways we know how. We can do this when we present hands-on and engaging lessons and instruction to our students. This is aClass Logo Project. Itis an editable presentation that can be accessed through Microsoft or Google. It consists of 32 slides. The objective is for students to be able to understand the various elements of a logo and design a class logo. The presentation breakdown is as follows: Slides 2 – 4: Defining a Logo Slides 5 – 9: The History of Logos Slides 10 – 16: Students will work to find the hidden or special message in the famous logos to ensue.
