Commutative Property of Multiplication 3rd Grade
Math, Multiplication and Division, Multiplication, Grade 3, Worksheets & Printables
These sets of worksheets have been created to help 3rd Grade students understand one of the fundamental concepts in mathematics, namely the commutative property of multiplication, showing that changing the order of the numbers when multiplying two numbers does not alter the final result. Understanding the commutative property of multiplication is essential because: 1. It helps students recognize patterns and relationships between numbers. 2. It enhances mental math skills and computational fluency. We begin by using the visual aid of Arrays, providing a concrete representation of multiplication, helping students grasp the concept beyond (or even before) memorizing facts. This allows students to see multiplication as rows and columns. This approach also helps solidify the idea that multiplication is a quicker way to add the same number repeatedly. The last two sets move on to numerical worksheets aimed to reinforce the concept of commutativity, but now without the visual support of the Arrays, encouraging students to see the pattern of reversing the order of numbers when multiplying but still getting the same answer. Worksheets with Arrays Set 1: Multiples of 2 Set 2: Multiples of 3 Set 3: Multiples of 4 Set 4: Multiples of 5 Set 5: Multiples of 2,3,4 & 5 Numerical Worksheets Set 6: Commutative Property of Multiplication Part 1 - Factors from 2 to 10 Part 2 - Factors from 4 to 12 Set 7: Complete and Connect Worksheets per Set: The worksheets are virtually limitless. With a click of a button, numbers are randomized, which means that each worksheet is different. Besides regular classroom practice, these worksheets are ideal for math centers , end-of-lesson activities, or as resources for substitute teachers, requiring minimal instructions. Answers are generated automatically with each new worksheet. Compatibility Note This resource is compatible with Adobe Acrobat Reader on both Windows and Mac system
