This Guided Reading Book - The Power of the Team (Level N) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: The Power of the Team Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: SEL / Physical Education / Reading Primary Topic: Teamwork skills that help teams succeed Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): N What This Book Teaches Best Teamwork and shared goals: Teamwork happens when people work together to reach a common goal and play “for the whole group.” Communication in fast-paced play: Players use loud voices or hand signals to share information so everyone knows what to do next. Trust and cooperation through passing: Passing the ball (or puck) makes it harder for the other team to take it and shows teammates trust each other. Support and encouragement: Teammates help each other after mistakes and keep spirits high when things get difficult. Planning, practice, and coordination: Teams use strategy, practice together, and coordinate timing (like passing a relay baton) to perform smoothly. Learning Goals Students will explain what teamwork is and what it helps a team reach, using details from the text. Students will describe how communication helps a team during a fast-paced game. Students will explain why passing is important and what it shows about trust on a team. Students will describe ways teammates support one another with encouragement when someone struggles or makes a mistake. Students will explain how strategy and practice help a team work “like a single machine.” Students will describe how coordination and shared defense help teams succeed. Key Vocabulary From the Text cooperation — working together to reach a goal. vital — very important. encouragement — kind support that helps someone keep trying. strategy — a plan for the best way to play. coordination — moving and working together at the right time. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: How can working together help a team do better in a sport? Comprehension questions: What does the text say teamwork helps a group of people reach? According to the text, what do players use to share information during a fast-paced game? What does the text say teamwork teaches people how to be in every game they play? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. There is no time limit, and the assessment can be divided into two shorter sittings. Students can show their thinking with drawings, number lines, or written strategies, giving you valuable information beyond a final score. Use this resource for: ⭐ Beginning-of-year math assessment ⭐ Back-to-school math diagnostic ⭐ Second grade math pre-assessment ⭐ First-grade skills review ⭐ Small-group planning ⭐ Math intervention ⭐ Skill-based differentiation ⭐ Targeted reteaching ⭐ Independent follow-up practice ⭐ Student support planning After scoring, transfer results to the individual scoring sheet and whole-class tracking grid. The follow-up section provides one dedicated practice page for every assessed skill strand. Standards & Learning Goals This second grade math diagnostic assessment checks readiness across 12 essential strands: 🔢 Numbers to 120 🧱 Place value ⚖️ Comparing numbers ➕ Addition within 20 ➖ Subtraction within 20 ❓ Missing numbers 📖 Word problems 📏 Measurement 🕒 Telling time 📊 Data and graphs 🔷 2D and 3D shapes 🍕 Equal shares Students work with number charts, skip counting, base-ten blocks, tens and ones, expanded form, comparison symbols, ordering numbers, addition and subtraction within 20, missing addends, word problems, rulers, nonstandard measurement, analog clocks, graphs, tally charts, shape attributes, and equal parts. The included standards map provides illustrative Grade 1–2 Common Core references, including: 1.NBT.A.1 1.NBT.B.2–3 2.NBT.A.1 2.NBT.A.4 1.OA.A.1 1.OA.C.6 1.OA.D.8 2.OA.A.1 2.OA.B.2 1.MD.A.2 1.MD.B.3 1.MD.C.4 2.MD.A.1 2.MD.C.7 2.MD.D.10 1.G.A.1 1.G.A.3 2.G.A.1 2.G.A.3 Because a beginning-of-year Grade 2 diagnostic naturally checks end-of-first-grade mastery and readiness for second-grade work, the alignment intentionally spans both grade levels. Why Teachers Love It ✨ See more than a total score. Results are organized by skill strand for clearer instructional decisions. ✨ Save valuable planning time. The answer key, quick-grading grid, scoring sheet, and class tracker streamline your workflow. ✨ Build purposeful small groups. Group students by shared skill needs instead of relying only on overall scores. ✨ Identify strategy gaps. Teacher notes help you notice counting strategies, make-a-ten thinking, place-value confusion, and common misconceptions. ✨ Differentiate without extra searching. Print the specific follow-up page each student or group needs. ✨ Support data-informed instruction. The whole-class tracking grid on page 4 gives an at-a-glance view across all 12 strands, making shared gaps easier to spot. ✨ Move directly from assessment to reteaching. Practice pages include number charts, base-ten blocks, comparing numbers, operations within 20, word problems, measurement, clocks, graphs, shapes, and equal shares. ✨ Use fresh follow-up problems. Students practice the same underlying skills without simply repeating the original assessment questions. Start the year knowing what your students understand and what they need next. Download this Grade 2 beginning of year math assessment to assess readiness, identify learning gaps, form targeted small groups, and provide focused follow-up practice from one coordinated resource. Based On Research And Up-to-date Information: The curriculum provides students with current scientifically valid information by disproving current myths and focusing on scientifically verified, up-to-date information (e.g., nutrient density, the body's hormonal response to food, and the importance of the body's microbiome). Audience For This Poster: From examining the content, language, and references in the text (i.e. two references to "grade 8 students," two references to "9th grade students," and teacher reference to "middle years (grades 7-9)"), I am using the following criteria to define my audience? Primary Target: Advanced Middle School Students (Grades 7-8) and regular High School Students (Grades 9-10) Justification: The vocabulary is appropriate for students of this age and demonstrates a high level of abstract thinking (i.e. biochemistry, paradigm shifts, phospholipid bilayers, anaphylaxis). This will serve as an excellent core unit for a Health or Biology class in high school or as a challenging, extensive science unit for an advanced middle school science class. FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Pianos Genre: Nonfiction (informational text) Subject: Music (Performing Arts) / Reading Informational Text Primary Topic: How the piano was invented and improved Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): S What This Lesson Teaches Best How the piano idea began around 1700 in Florence, Italy , with Bartolomeo Cristofori trying to make music “gentle or bold” depending on touch. How the piano’s key action works: a mechanism sends a leather-covered hammer to strike strings, then pulls back so the string keeps vibrating . How dampers stop strings from ringing—and lifting them lets tones ring longer. How information spread the invention: Scipione Maffei published an article with a diagram , leading builders like Gottfried Silbermann to make pianos based on Cristofori’s design. How the piano grew for bigger spaces: sturdier builds and a wider range from about four octaves to 88 keys , changing where music could be played (homes, schools, apartments, stages). Learning Goals Students will explain why Cristofori began tinkering with a new keyboard instrument around 1700. Students will describe how a key triggers the hammer-and-string action using details from the passage. Students will explain how a player’s touch can make the sound softer or louder according to the text. Students will identify how Maffei helped the piano idea travel and name one builder mentioned who made pianos afterward. Students will describe how the piano’s keyboard range changed over time and state the number of keys many pianos have today. Key Vocabulary From the Text harpsichords — older keyboards that stayed mostly one volume. inventory — a recorded list that showed a piano existed. mechanism — moving parts that make the piano action work. dampers — parts that stop strings from ringing. octaves — groups of notes used to describe keyboard range. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. These short readings fit into whatever time you have available. Each one includes a warm-up, a reading, and a set of questions, but it’s flexible — you can do just the reading, the full lesson, or skip the writing section if you need to. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

Civic Literacy Essay for Week 30, Regents US History
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Teacher Tools, Assessments
Civic Literacy Essay for Week 30, Regents US History Immigration This Civic Literacy essay is based on a set of primary source documents. The question is designed to test a student's ability to work with historical documents. In analyzing the documents, students consider the source of each document and any point of view that may be presented. The language and images used in a document may reflect the historical context of the time in which it was created. A recommended teaching practice for New York State Regents US History and Government is to train students to write one of these each ten weeks or so through the year. Teachers preparing students for the New York State Regents will find it difficult to train students to write these well if they wait until the end of the year! Each of the civic literacy essays authored by Innovation Assessments LLC are designed for different points in the year such that documents come from historical context usually under study. Here is a blog article about teaching document-based essays that will be helpful. Historical Context of this essay prompt: E Pluribus Unum Throughout United States history, many constitutional and civic issues have been debated by Americans. The product also includes passcodes to my own virtual classroom at Innovation. Give students the passcodes for access to review videos with embedded, auto-corrected questions. Civic literacy essay formatted like the New York State US History and Government Regents exam. Grading rubric on a scale of 100 as commonly used in New York State high schools. Multiplication Assessment and Intervention Kit (Grades 3-6)
Math, Multiplication and Division, Division, Grade 4, 5, 6, Teacher Tools, Assessments
The Multiplication Assessment and Intervention Kit helps teachers quickly pinpoint where students are struggling with multiplication concepts. This 51-page kit contains a diagnostic assessment to easily screen any student struggling with multiplication, followed by activities to intervene at their current level of understanding. Activities progress through concrete, representational, and abstract learning stages, allowing personalized support to build conceptual mastery. The kit equips educators to efficiently target lagging skills in as little as 10-15 minutes per student through small groups, intervention blocks, or individual support. Developed by a teacher over three years of testing with struggling learners, these classroom-ready activities help fill learning gaps for grades 3-6 so students gain the multiplication fluency needed for future math success.
