2nd Grade Emergency Sub Plans - 5 Days No Prep All Subjects

Being out of the room for a week is hard enough in 2nd Grade, where the person covering your class usually cannot teach the content. This packet is built around that exact problem. It hands a substitute 5 complete class periods that need no preparation, no subject knowledge, and no grading.

Across the 5 days students work through, in order: Bees and Pollination, Adding and Subtracting; The Post Office, Place Value to 1,000; Animals in Winter, Counting Money; Market Day, Putting a Day in Order; and Shadows and the Sun, Measuring Length. Every day is two pages. The first is an original nonfiction reading written for this packet, followed by comprehension questions that move from what the passage says outright, to what it lets you conclude, to what a key term means in the context it appears in. Because everything a student needs is on the handout itself, a student who gets stuck re-reads the page rather than asking the substitute a question nobody in the room can answer. The second page is a self-checking activity: answers pair off into a set of matches, decode into a word or phrase, or fall into a sequence, which means a wrong answer announces itself to the student and gets fixed without an adult ever adjudicating it. Each of those pages also carries a find-the-mistake exercise and a challenge for anyone who finishes early.

A run sheet at the front tells whoever is covering exactly what to hand out each day and what to print, and a full set of answers waits at the back for your return. Every day stands on its own, so the set can run in any order, or a single day can be pulled on its own when you only need one. Designed for 2nd Grade, printed in a clean low-ink layout, and equally at home in a homeschool schedule. Nothing here needs a device, a textbook, a login, or an internet connection.
